LRHL. Ron Hubbard Arrives at Creston

Sarge.jpg

Toward the end of my years as ‘rover’ I lived in an RV park in a small town called Devore. Devore was a little town north of San Bernadino California. I coined the term ‘Rover’ as I didn’t really have a postA position from which a terminal operates in an org, where one knows that somebody is at. (FO 2200). During those years I just floated around and did backup stuff for Pat Broker and LRHL. Ron Hubbard. We used the Devore RV park for ‘meets’ with DM and JB and a safe place for Pat and I to operate from. .

Early 1983, after LRHs birthday in March, Pat brought a horse to Devore. The horse was a beautiful thoroughbred mare named ‘January’. January was a birthday present from Pat and Annie Broker to LRHL. Ron Hubbard. We found a local with a corral for rent in the town of Devore and I took care of ‘January’. I fed, brushed and curried her and would ride her around the corral bareback (didn’t have a saddle). She loved me and I her.

One day in early May ‘83’ Pat came with a horse trailer and we loaded January up and off they went. Pat also had me look for another RV park where we could park an

RV or vehicle. I found a place on hwy 95(?) west of Victorville, Cal. It was a little RV park tucked away in a box canyon in the mountains. Later on when I was courier at Creston I would use this park as a vehicle relay point to change vehicles before going to Int (S) or LA. Well, after the Beverly Hills restaurant thing where Pat and DM had me burning a 20 dollar bill, I knew something was up.

It was mid May of ‘83’ when Pat showed up at the Devore RV park and told me to

pack up my stuff. He said I was moving and wouldn’t be back. We drove for a long time and finally we arrived at the sleepy little town of Creston. Creston was a small town in the coastal range of California in San Luis Obispo county. This was horse country.

Kenny Rogers had a big horse ranch there. Creston had two bars (Longbranch and Loadingshute), a Church, a small school, Post office and a few houses. Whispering Winds Ranch was about a mile south of town on a private road.

Pat didn’t tell me where we were going until we made the turn south of Creston. Pat said I was going to a ranch to work for the ‘old man’. Pat told me that I needed to choose an AKA (also known as) name to use. We had the radio on and the group ‘Carpenters’ were singing ‘its only just begun’. So I said Carpenter. I needed to choose a first name and I had to eliminate other names I had used. I thought about it and I just wanted to be an ordinary ‘Joe’. So now I was ‘Joe Carpenter’.

We got settled in and Pat showed me around the ranch. I saw my old friend ‘January’ and she was as glad to see me as I her. I also met ‘Rojo’. Rojo was a large ‘American saddle’ horse that we got with the property. Rojo was suppose to be my horse. He was a gelding and had a great disposition. We got along fine.

I started to work the next day and met the electrical contractors that installed all the electrical for the RV hookups at the stables. I ran all the water lines and plumbing etc. I went to town and bought lots of tools etc to setup the place. The ranch had been neglected and was very runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) down after a messy divorce by the previous owner. The ranch looked bad but it had potential. Lots of work to do.

After a couple weeks of setups, about early to mid June, we had completed the setups and were ready for LRHL. Ron Hubbard. Pat took me for a walk and stopped me and said “Sarge! If you ever blow-v. ''Slang'' unauthorized departure from an area. (HCOB 19 Jun 71 II), I will track you down and I will kill you”. It was tone 40 and meant to impinge. Now, Pat and I didn’t always agree but we got along and I thought we were friends. This just blew-v. ''Slang'' unauthorized departure from an area. (HCOB 19 Jun 71 II) my mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE. Anyway he told me he was going to go get ‘the old man’ and Annie and to expect them mid to late afternoon.

I hung out at the stables and cleaned the stables apartment and took care of the horses etc and waited for his arrival. I was very nervous. I double checked everything.

There were two vehicles. The ‘Bluebird’ was a large bus converted into a motor home. The ‘Country Aire’was a 40 foot long trailer pulled by a truck. The ‘Bluebird’ entered the gate first and stopped about 50 yards from the stables next to the lake. Annie was driving. I was standing at the end of the stables when LRHL. Ron Hubbard came bounding out of the ‘Bluebird’ and yelled ‘SARGE!’. Yikes! Anyone who knew LRHL. Ron Hubbard can attest that he had a booming voice. Now all the neighbors knew he arrived. I was surprised and happy at the same time. I hurried to the Bluebird to greet him. By the time

I got there Annie was there beaming at me. She said ‘hello’ and gave me a big hug.

I don’t remember seeing LRHL. Ron Hubbard so excited. He was giddy. All smiles and I could tell he was happy to see me and finally have a home again. Wow!

LRHL. Ron Hubbard gave me a conspiratorial look and asked “what’s your handle”?

I said “Joe Carpenter”. He laughed and told me that was a great name. Made me feel good as I thought so too.

Then he said my name is ‘Jack Farnsworth’, and he laughed again. I told him that was a great name. We exchanged ‘shore stories’ so we were on the same page. Pat was Mike Mitchell, the owner of the property. Annie was Lisa Mitchell, Mike’s wife and LRHL. Ron Hubbard was Lisa’s father. I was Joe, a friend of the family hired to help runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) the property.

LRHL. Ron Hubbard stared at me, still smiling, and asked me “who do I look like”? I said I don’t know. He said “ no, really who do I look like”? He could tell I was uncomfortable so he said “Colonel Sanders!” He laughed again and then we all did. He really did. His hair was long and white with a little red and he had a beard and he was dressed like a southern gentlemen.

Pat and I got the RVs hooked up and everyone settled in while I cooked dinner. I setup a card table in the stables living room and we all sat around eating and talking. It was great. LRHL. Ron Hubbard loved what I cooked and that was the end of the first day at Creston.

all that glitters is not gold

I have never seen anything more disgusting to me than the way Pat Broeker and DM spent money that did not belong to them. Pat was the biggest’ hobby horser’ I ever saw and DM had his head up Pat’s ass. They were the bobsey twins with gold and diamond everything.

Just before I went to Creston Pat and DM ran a money thing on me. I was taken to Beverly Hills to a fancy restaurant, the valet parked the Van. Why? We had a very expensive meal. I was supposed to be impressed. Wasn’t. Then I was told to pull a twenty dollar bill out of my wallet and burn it in the ash tray. They both laughed at me because they said I was too frugal and needed to learn that money was not a problema problem is postulate-counter-postulate, terminal-counter-terminal, force-counter-force. It’s one thing versus another thing. You’ve got two forces or two ideas which are interlocked of comparable magnitude and the thing stops right there. All right, now with these two things one stuck against the other you get a sort of a timelessness, it floats in time. (SH Spec 82, 6111C21) 2 . a problem is a postulate-counter-postulate resulting in indecision. That is the first manifestation of problems, and the first consequence of a problem is indecision. (SH Spec 27, 6107C11) 3 . a multiple confusion. (SH Spec 26X, 6107C03) 4 . an intention counter-intention that worries the preclear. (HCOB 23 Feb 61) 5 . a problem is the conflict arising from two opposing intentions. A present time problem is one that exists in present time, in a real universe. (HCOB 3 Jul 59) 6 . something which is persisting, the as-is-ness of which cannot be attained easily. (PRO 16, 5408CM20) and to buy nothing but the best. To me that was waste. I know if it were up to them I would not have been on those lines as I was too honest. Had it not been for LRHL. Ron Hubbard I would not have been at Creston.

In contrast LRHL. Ron Hubbard had all the money in the world and wouldn’t spend a dime on himself unless his statsAbbreviation for statistics. A number or amount compared to an earlier number or amount of the same thing. Statistics refer to the quantity of work done or the value of it in money. (HCO PL 16 Dec 65) were up. Let me give you an example. While we were up at Creston, one day LRHL. Ron Hubbard said to me enthusiastically, “Sarge, my statsAbbreviation for statistics. A number or amount compared to an earlier number or amount of the same thing. Statistics refer to the quantity of work done or the value of it in money. (HCO PL 16 Dec 65) are up. I think it’s time we got some vehicles for the ranch.” I had been driving around the 160 acre property and to town in an old beat up Chevy pick up truck. It was called Kris Kringle because it was painted with green and red primer. LRHL. Ron Hubbard said he had done some research and found that the most reliable, and economical vehicles he could find were Subarus. He even researched out how to get the best price on them. He directed me to go out and purchase a Subaru station wagon for off-property business and a 4wd Subaru Brat for his use around the ranch. I found the best deal in Orange county Cal. I bought both vehicles and towed the Brat with the wagon back to Creston. The old man was overjoyed. He loved the Brat. It was black and the wagon was silver. And that was LRHL. Ron Hubbard’s fleet. And he drove around the ranch in that little Subaru and lived in his RV on that ranch till the day he died.

recollections 4 Cine

After my adventure as SupercargoThe Supercargo has general control and authority over Divisions 7, 1 and 2, and Departments 1 to 6, including communications, personnel, inspections, ethics, orders, publications, hand-books, manuals, operators' manuals for equipment, ship plans, crew education, schedules, crew's records, books and papers, shore contacts, entering and clearing vessels. (FO 1109) WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California, in 1977, I was happily a courier again. The Old Man had written up scripts for a new project called Cine. One day I was at the stables washing my vehicle when a messenger came and asked me to paint a backdrop to go behind a window. The Old Man was doing camera tests as a pre-production project called ‘get your feet wet’. The ‘date packing plant’ had been turned into a studio for ‘Cine’ shoots. I was chosen to paint a simple backdrop because I had been an artist since a kid and knew how to mix colors etc. I found an old sheet of plywood and used some house paint left over from renos. I painted a simple mountain landscape. I even added a tree or two.

Well, next day after my courier runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75), a messenger came up to me all excited and said LRHL. Ron Hubbard wants to see you. I was thinking about telling him I could do better if I had more time and some better materials, etc. Lots of justifiers. When I arrived at the Studio (makeshift affair put together from an old date packing plant), I found a very happy and excited LRHL. Ron Hubbard looking through a camera lens. He had me come over to look through the lens at my backdrop neatly framed by the window. Wow! Did I do that? It looked real. I was as impressed as he was. The Old Man called me a genius (again) and also called me Rembrandt.

During Cine the whole crew, including those with full-time postsA position from which a terminal operates in an org, where one knows that somebody is at. (FO 2200) were used as extras, and held other part time Cine postsA position from which a terminal operates in an org, where one knows that somebody is at. (FO 2200). After Cine was in full production the Art Director at the time was found wandering around the alfalfa field talking to himself. Well….yes, (gulp) I was next. It’s amazing how it happened. Instead of the Old Man just posting me as Art Director, he sent Maria Starkey to ask me to help LRHL. Ron Hubbard out. There’s that help button again. Maria was now SupercargoThe Supercargo has general control and authority over Divisions 7, 1 and 2, and Departments 1 to 6, including communications, personnel, inspections, ethics, orders, publications, hand-books, manuals, operators' manuals for equipment, ship plans, crew education, schedules, crew's records, books and papers, shore contacts, entering and clearing vessels. (FO 1109) WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California. Well, I figured if I had a way out, I was going to take it. I said no thanks. Then, came Maria and Norman Starkey with their best regAbbreviation for register, registrar, registration. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976) hats1. The term and idea of a hat comes from conductors or locomotive engineers, etc., each of whom wears a distinctive and different type of headgear. A hat therefore designates particular status and duties in an organization. (HCO PL 22 Sept 70) 2. The duties of a post. (HCO PL 13 Sept 70) on and talked me into it.’ Shame Sarge, LRHL. Ron Hubbard needs you.’ Norman was the Producer (held half the org boardAbbreviation for organizing board. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976).) and I was to be Art Director (and hold the other half). Scared to say the least. The Old Man was happy to have me on postA position from which a terminal operates in an org, where one knows that somebody is at. (FO 2200) and started me out on gradients again. I would read the scripts and submit a set design while I was also reading Cine hatA hat therefore designates particular status and duties in an organization. (HCO PL 22 Sept 70)...more material.

The first few set designs were approved with VWDs. Then it got rougher. It seems I was also in charge1. harmful energy or force accumulated and stored within the reactive mind, resulting from the conflicts and unpleasant experiences that a person has had. Auditing discharges this charge so that it is no longer there to affect the individual. (Scn AD)..more of Sets, props, wardrobe, makeup and special effects etc. I had to handle a whole lot of natter, crying, temper tantrums, etc. I never got another approved set design. (justifiers again). I soon became overwhelmed. When I was reassigned to LEC (LRHL. Ron Hubbard External Comm) I was relieved and also felt I let the Old Man down. I assigned myself confusion as it seemed to fit.

Toward the end of Cine and WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California, the Old Man looked sick. The atmosphere was one of group bank2. a colloquial name for the reactive mind. This is what the procedures of Scn are devoted to disposing of, for it is only a burden to an individual and he is much better off without it. (Scn AD)...more against LRHL. Ron Hubbard and the CMOAbbreviation for Commodore's Messenger Organization. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976).. LRHL. Ron Hubbard invited anyone who didn’t want to be there to leave. Many did. I was walking from LEC in ‘Olives’ to the ranch house as many with bags were leaving and the Old Man was there with messengers. He walked up to me and I was surprised when he said, ‘well, are you leaving too?’. I looked him in the eyes and said ‘no Sir! I’m staying!’ I could tell he was not well, but he said ‘Good!’

recollections 3

In the fall of 1976 I was a courier at WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California. Couriers would take LRHL. Ron Hubbard’s com from LEC and do tail shakes (make sure we weren’t being followed) and drive to the ‘Manor’ in Hollywood. We would go to the top floor of the Manor to the GOAbbreviation for 1. Guardian's Office. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). The Guardian's Office handles certain publics which are its sole responsibility. These publics are as follows: press relations, government relations, special Guardian group relations, opposition group relations, troublesome relations. (BPL 20 May 70 I) (GuardianThe purpose of the Guardian is: to help LRH enforce and issue policy, to safeguard Scientology orgs, Scientologists and Scientology and to engage in long term promotion. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). ) offices, drop off com, pickup com and take the com and any passengers back to WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California. Talk about a great job. I wanted to do that forever. Well, I did that for a month or so when one day a messenger came and told me I was now SupercargoThe Supercargo has general control and authority over Divisions 7, 1 and 2, and Departments 1 to 6, including communications, personnel, inspections, ethics, orders, publications, hand-books, manuals, operators' manuals for equipment, ship plans, crew education, schedules, crew's records, books and papers, shore contacts, entering and clearing vessels. (FO 1109) WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California. I thought, that’s ok, all I have to do after my courier runs was help load and unload stuff. During study time that day I sure found out what an S/C was and I also found out what HFA meant. Now, I was also visibly green. Luckily I had Source. Both green on white and via many many messenger runs. The Old Man took time out of his busy day to help me, to ‘train me up’. I would do com runs to Rifle and when he saw me he always asked how I was doing and would give me encouragement. First order of business was to establish an org boardAbbreviation for organizing board. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). that was workable. The Old Man worked very close with me on that. One day while doing Chinese School on the crew, I thought it boring so I tried to lighten it up with my humor. Although I was proud of myself for being clever I soon got my first adminA contraction or shortening of the word administration, admin is used as a noun to denote the actions involved in administrating an organization. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). cram. The Old Man was very patient with me.

You all know what gradients are. The Old Man handled me with perfect gradients. Soon I was walking with the swagger of a fully hattedEach org staff member is a specialist in one or more similar functions. These are his specialties. If he is fully trained to do these he is said to be hatted. (HCO PL 28 Jul 72) S/C. The Old Man had a wayof saving some stuff. Well, while everyone was sleeping there was no one looking out for the place(s). He told me there needed to be night security guards. He also told me, in way of an apology I think, ‘if you want something done, give it to a busy man’. (gulp) again. Only now I had big shoulders. By this time, if the Old Man would have said ‘Sarge, dig me a ditch’ you would have found poor ole Sarge in the morning laying on his shovel in a mile long ditch.

The Old Man had the purchaser buy me a duplicator machine and a manual typewriter. He didn’t know I didn’t know how to type. Enter the OODS (orders of the day). The Old Man and Mary Sue and others would postA position from which a terminal operates in an org, where one knows that somebody is at. (FO 2200) regularly. Sorry, again that was fun. One time I got a very polite reprimand from Mary Sue about a postA position from which a terminal operates in an org, where one knows that somebody is at. (FO 2200) that was off color. On a com runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) I apologized and she gave me a little cram…’ Look up the word.’ Good God I liked her. Mary Sue was like a queen. Mary Sue and Nikki , her communicator, used to kid me about Suzette, often. Sorry Suzette but they really did. Woulda, shoulda …..“stupid is as stupid does”.

I had problems with ‘personnel’. I had folders sent me from a terminal in PACAbbreviation for Pacific. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). of prospects to go ‘Over The Rainbow’. Problem was no one passed the GOAbbreviation for 1. Guardian's Office. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). These publics are as follows: press relations, government relations, special Guardian group relations, opposition group relations, troublesome relations. (BPL 20 May 70 I) did the right thing I know but I got caught in a ‘catch 22’. By this time, although the Old Man could be patient, he also wanted things done ‘yesterday’ so he could operate. I just didn’t know what to do. I knew he wanted people very much but he had a freeze on key personnel. (that was my justifier for those slow to pick it up). What happened next surprised me. The Old Man did an evalAbbreviation for evaluation. The purpose of an evaluation is to isolate and handle the cause of a non-optimum situation so as to reverse and improve it toward an ideal scene. An evaluation is also done to isolate the cause of a scene which is going well and to reinforce it. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) (checking data for whys and whos etc). He bypassed everyone. I was reassigned to courier (whew). I did danger. The Old Man never assigned me a lower conditionA condition is an operating state. (SH Spec 62, 6505C25). The Old Man never yelled at me, EVER. I’ve seen it happen to others but never me and ya know, I used to screw up often. Maybe he looked into my heart. I think. Conditions were meant to help you, not invalidate. Conditions are personal. Get help to sort it out but please don’t accept someone else’s viewpoint unless it helps YOU.

We had to switch from Datsun 210’s to station wagons. I was a courier but now on nights. Life was good. I would deliver com to the GOAbbreviation for 1. Guardian's Office. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). The Guardian's Office handles certain publics which are its sole responsibility. These publics are as follows: press relations, government relations, special Guardian group relations, opposition group relations, troublesome relations. One day I walked to the FOLOFlag Operations Liaison Office, left a wake up call time and went to sleep in the stinky FOLOFlag Operations Liaison Office men’s dorm. I was suppose to be an SOAbbreviation for Sea Organization. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). missionaireThe name missionaire implies someone going out to handle admin, tech, ethics or PR. He goes off to get an org or ship straightened up. I knew I was headed for the RPFAbbreviation for 1. Rehabilitation Project Force. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). Everyone ignored me. I left the front door and men in suits said you can go, have a nice day.

What was happening? I walked down to the ‘Manor’ and decided to use the back door as the front had more suits. I decided to use the stairs and saw no one. Apparently the FBI raid had just happened. I met Chuck Adams at a ‘drop’ site and brought com back to WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California. I told my story and, lo and behold by pure accident once again, Sarge was a hero. Life is good again.

recollections 2

In early June 1976 Marcus Swanson and I were security guards at a warehouse in Tampa when we got orders to pack our bags. Marcus, Mark Ferriera (AKA: Muff) and I were flown to L.A. then picked up by the G.O. and driven to WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California (Winter Head Quarters) in La Quinta near Indio/Palm Springs. WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California was actually a complex of individual houses located directly behind the famous La Quinta hotel and golf course where they held the Bob Hope golf tournament every year. All the main houses fronted on ‘Obregon Ave’ just behind the hotel. There were three main properties.

LRHL. Ron Hubbard always named ‘MEST1. a coined word, meaning matter, energy, space and time, the physical universe. All physical phenomena may be considered as energy operating in space and time. The movement of matter or energy in time is the measure of space. All things are mest except theta. (Abil 114-A)...More’ for ease of communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more. ‘Palms’ was to the west just off Eisenhower Blvd. Palms used to be owned by President Eisenhower. It was a two story building with a detached garage and guest house with a huge court yard, swimming pool, a date palm field and tennis court. Directly to the east of Palms was ‘Olives’. Olives was the largest of the properties. Olives had a distinctive swimming pool that was used in several 60’s movies. There were orange, lemon, grapefruit and of course Olive trees everywhere. To the east of Olives was a road that led past it’s date palm field heading south to the ranch house, stables and date packing plant. Also located at Olives was a guest house with a full kitchen, one long house with two rooms and another guest room which Arthur Hubbard lived in. Again to the east was an alfalfa field, then the ‘Rifle’ property where LRHL. Ron Hubbard lived. (pop quiz to follow!).

The two Marks and I found ourselves baggage and all on the road to the ranch house when all of a sudden LRHL. Ron Hubbard and his entourage entered the road behind us. (yikes). We froze as we weren’t sure what to do. LRHL. Ron Hubbard told us to get some shovels and fill in the ruts in the road. Escrow had just closed and LRHL. Ron Hubbard had just started viewing the properties and making lists for renos, he was not living there yet, he was still living in Culver City, just outside Los Angeles at a huge apartment complex which housed his office, berthing and a small crew and a few messengers. This was called ‘Astra’.

That first summer, in one word, was FUN. We had a very special group. David and Claire Rousseau and Lois were messengers running the Renos projects.. Soon others came. Marcus and I were already good friends but I worked a lot with Leo Johnson., I knew Leo from Dunedin – King Arthurs Court.

Because of the heat (126f in the shade) LRHL. Ron Hubbard set our schedule to arise at 4 am, have breakfast, do up battleplans for that day, work till 11 am and have lunch. After lunch we were to have siesta until 3pm or so then work til dinner. Many of us decided to use our siesta in the Palms or Olives pools. We usually worked after dinner until 10 or 11pm. We all became very good friends. One day at the end of the summer and renovations we were doing final fix-its at ‘Rifle’ when a man in a suit carrying a clipboard walked up and asked where our building permit was and asked who was in charge1. harmful energy or force accumulated and stored within the reactive mind, resulting from the conflicts and unpleasant experiences that a person has had. Auditing discharges this charge so that it is no longer there to affect the individual. (Scn AD)..more etc. Well, I am not sure just what I said to the guy but I gave him my shore story and my best no answers and he went away and didn’t return. We were all drilled in our shore stories and LRHL. Ron Hubbard had us choose our AKAs (phony names) .

Soon after LRHL. Ron Hubbard came to ‘W’ he dropped by the Ranch House where I was. A messenger came in and said LRHL. Ron Hubbard wants to see you. I was surprised to see him at the ranch house gate. LRHL. Ron Hubbard told me he had heard about the way I handled the building inspector that came to Rifle. He called me a genius. Wow! Was my needle floating! Then he told me he was going to train me up to be a big executive (gulp). I knew I was like a ripe avocado, green inside and out. I thanked him. He told me to carry on and I did, without footprints.

During those days LRHL. Ron Hubbard was very accessible to the crew. He used to walk around the property and you never knew when he would just show up, chat or give advice. It was great. LRHL. Ron Hubbard and Mary Sue lived and had their offices at ‘Rifle’. LRHL. Ron Hubbard drove a Jeep Cherokee four wheel drive. Once I was invited along with others to go to town to a movie. I was thrilled, being invited by the boss to goof off. I think the movie was ‘Star Wars’ .

Four green Datsun 210 cars were purchased in a fleet purchase. They were identical except for one number on each license plate. The idea was couriers, purchasers and others coming and going at different times would confuse anyone trying to determine schedules and it would make it look like less people were driving around. LRHL. Ron Hubbard never missed a trick. Marcus and I were the first Couriers. I had days and Marcus nights. Talk about fun. The Old Man had us wear Cowboy hats1. The term and idea of a hat comes from conductors or locomotive engineers, etc., each of whom wears a distinctive and different type of headgear. A hat therefore designates particular status and duties in an organization. (HCO PL 22 Sept 70) 2. The duties of a post. (HCO PL 13 Sept 70) when we left the ranch (W), then take them off after we left the valley, then wear them again back to W.

The couriers used to check oil and wash their cars in front of the stables near the ranch house. One day I was busy washing my courier car and I was whistling. I felt a presence behind me, I turned around and saw the Old Man standing there. He told me that he could always tell someone who enjoyed their work when they whistled. He apologized for disturbing me and told me to ‘carry on’.

Security and communications were very important to the Old Man. He treated the couriers with respect. He taught us a lot about protection from ‘bugs’ and tail shakes, which evolved into the security pack.

Since I was on days I got most of the new people as passengers. I don’t know who coined the phrase ‘Over The Rainbow’ but I loved it. I asked someone once and was told that every time someone disappears in the middle of the night, people would joke that they just went ‘ Over the Rainbow’. The couriers were told not to answer any questions about where they were going, etc until we were close to ‘W’. We would put people on a routing form once they arrived then give them an orientation of the property. When we went to ‘Rifle’ I always told them to be very quite so we don’t disturb the Old Man. We woulnever go inside but several times the Old Man heard us, even though we whispered, and he would come out to say hello. More W stories to come including ‘Cine’

recollections 1

It began when I was living in Michigan in the spring of 1975 and I saw an ad in a magazine for ‘Fundamentals of Thought’. I sent for the book, loved it and sent for more books. Then began a phone regAbbreviation for register, registrar, registration. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976) cycle that led to a weekend trip to FCDC (Founding Church of Scientology, Washington D.C.) in May 75. At the time I was 30 years old and my life was going well. I had a good job, a new house, new corvette convertible, lots of friends, my family loved me and I had women knocking my door down (so, I exaggerate once in a while). Just ‘stuff’. I was bored. I needed adventure. Well, I sure got it.

During my first weekend at FCDC I did intro course, Life repair (which didn’t take long) and I was blown away. I bought the bridge! I flew home, quit my job, put my house up for sale, ARC1. a word from the initial letters of Affinity, Reality, Communication which together equate to Understanding. Initially, I was disappointed when I found out there were other OrgsShort for organization. (HCO PL 8 Sept 69) and that LRHL. Ron Hubbard wasn’t at FCDC. I really wanted to meet him. I signed a billion year contract and left the next day for the FOLOFlag Operations Liaison Office in New York. This was Nov. 75. I was then flown to Clearwater where the Fort Harrison was just purchased. I was assigned to the renos crew and was again disappointed as there was no sign of LRHL. Ron Hubbard. I did renos for a while and became friends with Marcus Swanson. We then were assigned to the security forcel. random effort. (Scn 0-8, p. 75) 2. energy with some direction. (PDC 56) 3. force of course is made up of time, matter, energy, flows, particles, masses, solids, liquids, gasses, space and locations. (HCOB 16 Jun 70) and I was made HAS. I worked for Wayne Marple (great guy). I was then assigned as a security guard at the Duneden complex. Finally! LRHL. Ron Hubbard was there. I was blown away but very nervous. Please Steve don’t mess this up. Well, I did.

LRHL. Ron Hubbard was bigger than life. He went for a walk with a messenger about my second day on duty. The complex at Duneden was a long row of apartment buildings, mostly empty. The complex was at the very end. There was a two story building with apartments and garages where all the berthing and offices were and across from it was a one story building used for storage. Most of the other buildings were vacant. I was told to protect the complex. Well, when LRHL. Ron Hubbard went for his walk, I stayed around the complex. LRHL. Ron Hubbard walked with the messenger up to a recreation building, spent a little while, came back to the complex and looked a little upset. They went inside without as much as a nod.

Disappointed again.

Then the messenger came out and told me LRHL. Ron Hubbard was upset that I didn’t follow him out to the rec building. That’s when I first met my wonderful friend Lois Jory. She was so nice and we became friends. From then on I followed LRHL. Ron Hubbard like a shadow. The next day when he came out for his walk he asked my name and was very friendly. Over the next few months I became a fixture around there. I met everyone. Great group of OTs. LRHL. Ron Hubbard always stopped to talk on his walks. Life was good again.

I hadn’t completed my bridge purchase at FCDC and needed money. Someone told me to petition Mary Sue for a refund, I did and got my money within a week. I always loved Mary Sue. She was a special lady. I then asked for a couple weeks leave to go back to FCDC to pick up my mest1. a coined word, meaning matter, energy, space and time, the physical universe. While at FCDC I saw some old friends and was asked if I had met LRHL. Ron Hubbard and I said yes I was a security guard for him. I was very proud of that. While there I saw some people I recognized but couldn’t place. Upon arrival back at Duneden I sure found out who they were.

They were messengers Claire and David Rousseau, who apparently reported on me for out security. The G.O. assigned me to my first lower conditionA condition is an operating state. Ron Hubbard, Mary Sue, included. Wow! I didn’t know it at the time but I had gone back to FCDC just when LRHL. Ron Hubbard went to DC with Claire and David.

I then got on LRHs good side. We were being surveilled by the the Saint Petersburg Times wanting a story about LRHL. Ron Hubbard . I was on duty one day when I saw a car pull up by one of the empty buildings. A man got out of the car, saw me and went into the courtyard of a building and started walking through toward our complex. I headed him off and told him he was trespassing. He said he was from the SPSuppressive Person: 2. a person who rewards only down statistics and never rewards an up statistic. He was a nice guy so I told him I sure would like to meet him too, but this is a United Churches property and I’m here to protect their privacy. I watched him like a hawk till he left, then reported the incident to the G.O. LRHL. Ron Hubbard loved the story and I got my first very well done. What a kick! LRHL. Ron Hubbard left soon after and I went on warehouse duty in Tampa. Then came WHQWinter HeadQuarters. LRH's home and operational center in California.
