In the early 1950's L Ron Hubbard ran into the phenomena of "past lives" in his new mental science, Dianetics1. At the same time he was met with resistance from "Dianeticists" about promoting or discussing this phenomena. It was considered too controversial and that the subject would create public resistance to the new science.

Hubbard ignored the criticisms and put truth ahead of political correctness. He went on to lecture and write extensively about past lives and many other phenomena that could be lumped into the realm of paranormal.

Since the late sixties, Scientology and Dianetic processing has been addressing the "spirit world" in a dramatic way. Most of that activity has been deemed "confidential" by the corporate church of Scientology and has been the subject of scorn and ridicule on the Internet in recent times. Unfortunately, a small cult group within the management of the corporate church has acted very badly over the past couple decades and given the subject a bad name as well.
