Special HPAAbbreviation for Hubbard Professional Auditor. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). Lecture Series

The special Hubbard Professional Audit lecture series is unusual, possibly unique, in that Ron Hubbard's lecture series were usually aimed at highly qualified auditors while congresses and other lecture series were given to a broad range of Scientologists and non-Scientologists. This series of lectures is aimed at people who are not auditors but are dedicated to taking training as auditors and gives them the basic data they need. Given in 1959 it gives the basics of auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) which are still applicable today. See the short excerpt at the beginning of Robin's review for what Ron says about the series. (Antony Phillips, editor and poster of this to Scientolipedia.)

SHPA, Special Hubbard Professional Auditors Course (London).

L. Ron Hubbard gave these lectures to students of an HCA/HPAAbbreviation for Hubbard Professional Auditor. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). course in London. The first lecture was on April 6th 1959 and the closing lecture was on May 1st 1959. Usually Ron gave two lectures per day. The whole series contains 26 tapes and was published under the title "The Skills of a Theta1. theta is thought, life force, elan vital, the spirit, the soul, or any other of the numerous definitions it has had for some thousands of years. (SOS, p. 4)...More Being".

At the end of lecture #13, Ron himself said:

"You'll graduate from this course, by the way, having had a greater coverage of Scientology than has been given in any course -- including ACCsAdvanced Clinical Courses - ACCs - one of a number of theory and research courses usually delivered by L. Ron Hubbard during the years 1953 to 1961, which gave a deep insight into the phenomena of the mind and the rationale of research and investigation. They were the highest training level, senior to professional auditor (HPA/HCA) and Bachelor of Scientology (B.Scn.), and were experimental. Jack Horner was the only other person who was in charge of an ACC. -- for nine years."

Some (subjective) opinions on these lectures by the reviewer (Robin).
Ron's remark (see above) about the SHPA course lectures is not at all an exaggeration. Indeed, these lecture tapes cover everything a professional auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more has to know for successful clearing. That excludes, of course, the practical part and the processes themselves. The lessons taught here very occasionally contain examples using process commands to explain general principles of auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975). The main focus is always towards attitudes of auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more and preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' PC, mechanics of the mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE and its aberrations, basic principles of processing, etc.: in short, the stable data which will have validity independent of any technical advances or new processes in the future. It's these skills which, when they are missing in an auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more, no matter how advanced or sophisticated the processes he attempts to apply, may be, he will not succeed in improving a preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' PC's casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63). Examples of these vital tools are: codes, various charts, the Axioms, the Dynamics, the communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more cycle, cycle of action and many more of the basics which make the very foundation on which Scientology and Dianetics1. DIA (Greek) through, NOUS (Greek) mind, deals with a system of mental image pictures in relation to psychic (spiritual) trauma. The mental image pictures are believed on the basis of personal revelation to be comprising mental activity created and formed by the spirit, and not by the body or brain. (BPL 24 Sept 73 V) 2. Dn addresses the body. Thus Dn is used to knock out and erase illnesses, unwanted sensations, misemotion, somatics, pain, etc. Dn came before Scn. It disposed of body illness and the difficulties a thetan was having with his body. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more are built.

Incidentally Ron conveys deep philosophical insights into the relationships between man, the universes man is concerned with and the mechanisms inside man's mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE. This is what makes those tapes valuable even for those who feel no desire to become an auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more.

Whatever one's attitude toward the study of these lectures, it's strongly recommended studying the tapes in the order they were given. This is because course is structured so later lessons often build on earlier ones.

A couple of scenes have changed for the better since these lectures were first given. Most likely Scientologists all over the world have incorporated Hubbard’s ideas in their professions.

Actually Ron must have already been aware of the changes in his time - he remarks: "By the way, the whole American medical profession has now accepted prenatal banks because of Dianetics1. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more."
(Above quote taken from SHPA #10 "CODES")

It can be said about the lectures: No matter what your casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) state or your state of education in Scientology may be, don't be surprised if you have a couple of cognitions on this material which can compete with cognitions gained in an auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) session.

The following is a short description of each of the SHPA tapes. In most instances it contains mainly excerpts from the tape transcripts which the author regards as characteristic for that particular lecture or of particular interest.

Quotes are marked as such and put in quotation marks and inset. Text which is not in quotation marks is the reviewer's (Robin's) comment.

Beingness and Communication

A lecture given on 6 April 1959

"... We, in training you in Scientology as a professional, have this in mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE constantly. Our responsibility is to make sure that we teach you those things which work and to train you in such a way as to emphasize the importances that make certain things work so that you don't ever drift off into this attitude of "Nothing will happen, it doesn't matter what I do, so I no longer have to assume any type of vigorous, definite approach to the subject."

Universes

A lecture given on 7 April 1959

"You'll find in the Axioms a list of postulates2. a postulate is, of course, that thing which is a directed desire or order, or inhibition, or enforcement, on the part of the individual in the form of an idea. (2ACC 23A, 5312CM14) 3. that self-determined thought which starts, stops or changes past, present or future efforts. (APIA, p. 33) 4. is actually a prediction. (5112CM30B)-v...MORE that more or less have to be made in order to keep a mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE that way. And the Axioms are simply the rules of the universe of the mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE that makes it a mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE."
"You just remember that if he made the postulate, he made it according to certain rules and it comes apart according to certain rules and those rules are found in the Axioms."
"Now, what's the third universe? The second universe is the mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE. Now, what's this third universe? Well, it's actually really a sort of a subdivision, a sort of a Q and A, rather than a real universe and you could argue about this. But to most people it is a universe, so we include it in it. And we include a body."
"A body is apparently a universe. And it - a body plus its immediate possessions - is just about as much universe as lots of people have. They've completely lost the second universe; they have no awareness at all of the first universe and this leaves them with a body."
"A birth is not the source of a body, nor is sex the source of a body. It's merely the mechanics by which a body arrives. And I don't know that one can't just appear - unless somebody has made up a whole set of rules by which it must appear."
"Well, the rules by which it must appear are, more or less, the rules by which this universe lives. The rules by which a body must appear and the rules by which it must continue and the rules by which it must die are all a special set of rules."
"Now, the mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE tremendously influences the body - tremendously. Because the mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE is a created thing, the body is a created thing; but the body is a sort of a calling card. The mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE does not give you, at once, the individual's identity but the body does. That's his identity. And that's about what a body is."
"A body is something that makes people aware of a thetan1. the living unit we call, in Scn, a thetan, that being taken from the Greek letter theta, the mathematic symbol used in Scn to indicate the source of life and life itself. (Abil Ma 1) 2. the awareness of awareness unit which has all potentialities but no mass, no wave-length and no location. (HCOB 3 Jul 59) 3. the being who is the individual and who handles and lives in the body. (HCOB 23 Apr 69)...more, ... "
"Now, the fourth universe is the obvious one. That is the universe of matter, energy, space and time common to each and every one of the thetans in that universe."

The Dynamics

A lecture given on 7 April 1959

"... let's take a look at these things called "dynamicsthere could be said to be eight urges (drives, impulses) in life. These we call dynamics. These are motives or motivations. We call them the eight dynamics. The first dynamic -is the urge toward existence as one’s self. Here we have individuality expressed fully. This can be called the self dynamic...more." Well, if you look them over you will find out that the dynamicsthere could be said to be eight urges (drives, impulses) in life. These we call dynamics. These are motives or motivations. We call them the eight dynamics. The first dynamic -is the urge toward existence as one’s self. Here we have individuality expressed fully. This can be called the self dynamic...more, as listed, give you subdivisions of functions and actions, rather than things. So you'll just have to get used to the idea of the things - the targets - are four universes. And these dynamicsthere could be said to be eight urges (drives, impulses) in life. These we call dynamics. These are motives or motivations. We call them the eight dynamics. The first dynamic -is the urge toward existence as one’s self. Here we have individuality expressed fully. This can be called the self dynamic...more are urges or impulses. They are actions, urges, impulses which could be native to anything."
"You'll find in old Indian books - it said, "Things got very bad. The whole race went into a decline. Everything was upset. Man, in effect, had gone to hell. He had begun to eat. It was so bad that he even ate other animals."
"Well, that to us today is almost a novel look. But if you look at it you'll find that - in general, that fifth dynamic1. any one of the eight subdivisions of the dynamic principle of existence-SURVIVE. (PXL, p. 49) 2. dynamic is the ability to translate solutions into action. (HFP, p. 171) 3. the tenacity to life and vigor and persistence in survival. (DMSMH, p. 38) is to a large degree a consumption thing now. Man is very interested in consuming the fifth dynamic1. any one of the eight subdivisions of the dynamic principle of existence-SURVIVE. (PXL, p. 49) 2. dynamic is the ability to translate solutions into action. (HFP, p. 171) 3. the tenacity to life and vigor and persistence in survival. (DMSMH, p. 38) so that he can go on surviving, which is about the silliest thing you've ever wanted to see."

The last third is quite interesting stuff about the inversions on the dynamicsthere could be said to be eight urges (drives, impulses) in life. These we call dynamics. These are motives or motivations. We call them the eight dynamics. The first dynamic -is the urge toward existence as one’s self. Here we have individuality expressed fully. This can be called the self dynamic...more and the downward spiral.

Scales

A lecture given on 8 April 1959

This consists of the concept of simply "standing one's ground" in order to resolve another's effect. This is a sensible, realistic alternative and can be done by either a) out-creating an opponent with a bigger effect of one's own creation (and later perhaps suffering from guilt) or b) putting up a complementary postulate to the opponent .

But there is still a much higher concept for resolving a problema problem is postulate-counter-postulate, terminal-counter-terminal, force-counter-force. It’s one thing versus another thing. You’ve got two forces or two ideas which are interlocked of comparable magnitude and the thing stops right there. All right, now with these two things one stuck against the other you get a sort of a timelessness, it floats in time. (SH Spec 82, 6111C21) 2 . a problem is a postulate-counter-postulate resulting in indecision. That is the first manifestation of problems, and the first consequence of a problem is indecision. (SH Spec 27, 6107C11) 3 . a multiple confusion. (SH Spec 26X, 6107C03) 4 . an intention counter-intention that worries the preclear. (HCOB 23 Feb 61) 5 . a problem is the conflict arising from two opposing intentions. A present time problem is one that exists in present time, in a real universe. (HCOB 3 Jul 59) 6 . something which is persisting, the as-is-ness of which cannot be attained easily. (PRO 16, 5408CM20) or conflict: the ability of a being to exert pan-determinism. Something Ron goes in depth in one of the following lectures.

"A wonderful exercise is take the Chart of Human Evaluation out into the society, call on a bank2. a colloquial name for the reactive mind. This is what the procedures of Scn are devoted to disposing of, for it is only a burden to an individual and he is much better off without it. (Scn AD)...more, call on a greengrocer, talk to a policeman, stop a casual pedestrian. Listen to the communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more and look at them on the Tone Scale; see about where they are. You won't have to examine their past, present and future life to know what they're doing, what they think, what they react to, what they like, what would be their solution to any given problema problem is postulate-counter-postulate, terminal-counter-terminal, force-counter-force. (PRO 16, 5408CM20)."
"And we runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) into another scale and that is called the Effect Scale. Now, the Effect Scale is about the briefest scale there is. Now, although I've just gone over the ARC1. a word from the initial letters of Affinity, Reality, Communication which together equate to Understanding. It is pronounced by stating its letters, A-R- C. To Scientologists it has come to mean good feeling, love or friendliness, such as “He was in ARC with his friend.” One does not, however, fall out of ARC, he has an ARC break. (LRH Def. Notes)...more scale, don't you go forgetting it. And in Science of Survival there's that Chart of Human Evaluation. And the use of that scale directly in processing is with a modern process. If the worst PC1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) you have doesn't rise one tone level totally in ten days of auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975), boy, are you losing.
A good PC1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) will raise one tone level on the Chart of Human Evaluation in about one or two days of auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) - the whole behavior of the pc. You understand? They're very important. That's how you evaluate success - the emotional tones and changes. And they change in just that order, not some other order.
All right, so let's get on to this Effect Scale. This is a way of gauging the ARC1. a word from the initial letters of Affinity, Reality, Communication which together equate to Understanding. It is pronounced by stating its letters, A-R- C. To Scientologists it has come to mean good feeling, love or friendliness, such as “He was in ARC with his friend.” One does not, however, fall out of ARC, he has an ARC break. (LRH Def. Notes)...more scale - it's gauging the pc and measuring how much effect you're having on the pc. But when you start to measure how much effect you have on the pc let's not you make the mistake of you yourself being upside down on the Effect Scale. The only people who never produce any results in auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) are haywire, upset, all out of gear, mishmashed on the Effect Scale.
What is the Effect Scale? Very handy scale. At the top of the scale, the individual can receive or give, or not receive or not give an effect, at will. So it's an effect. Now, as we go down scale, the individual becomes more and more anxious about producing an effect, and more and more leery of receiving one."

States of Being

A lecture given on 8 April 1959

Content: Ron describes a scale of processing goals. On the lowest stage the body is addressed i.e. the goal is healing bodily ailments - as a physician does. Above that processing is more and more targeting the casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) of the preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' PC. This is related to various states of being - e.g. release, MEST1. a coined word, meaning matter, energy, space and time, the physical universe. All physical phenomena may be considered as energy operating in space and time. The movement of matter or energy in time is the measure of space. All things are mest except theta. (Abil 114-A)...More-Clear3. a Clear is not an all-knowing being. A Clear is somebody who has lost the mass, energy, space and time connected with the thing called mind . ( SH Spec 80, 6609C08) ...more, Theta-Clear3. a Clear is not an all-knowing being. A Clear is somebody who has lost the mass, energy, space and time connected with the thing called mind . ( SH Spec 80, 6609C08) ...more, Operating Thetan1. a thetan exterior who can have but doesn't have to have a body in order to control or operate thought, life, matter, energy, space and time. ( SH Spec 82, 6611C29) 2. willing and knowing cause over life, thought, matter, energy, space and time. And that would of course be mind and that would of course be universe. ( SH Spec 80, 6609C08)...7. this state of being is attained by drills and familiarity after the state of Clear has been obtained. A real OT has no reactive bank, is cause over matter, energy, space, time and thought and is completely free. (HCOB 12 Jul 65)...more.

Further. Ron talks about a scale of difficulties to be resolved in processing. The last difficulty to surrender is communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more difficulties, followed by form, which is next most difficult. Next to that is germs. Constant conditions are even easier to resolve (e.g. with an Locational Process). Chronic difficulties rank amongst the easier targets. Aches and pains are the easiest targets.

"All right. Nevertheless, that has to be - because it is and because it can be created in a finite number of hours - is the first grade of Clear3. a Clear is not an all-knowing being. A Clear is somebody who has lost the mass, energy, space and time connected with the thing called mind . ( SH Spec 80, 6609C08) ...more. This state can be obtained. E-Meters don't work on them until they key themselves back in again with postulates2. a postulate is, of course, that thing which is a directed desire or order, or inhibition, or enforcement, on the part of the individual in the form of an idea. (2ACC 23A, 5312CM14) 3. that self-determined thought which starts, stops or changes past, present or future efforts. (APIA, p. 33) 4. is actually a prediction. (5112CM30B)-v...MORE and so forth. And they measure up in various ways. Their intelligence is terrific. Now, these, by the way, are fairly terrific people. They do all right. I'm not downgrading the people who reach this state. I'm just showing you it's not stable."

A process:

"Get the idea of mocking up some money. Now get the idea that would spoil the game and don't do it."
"All right. Get the idea of mocking up a picture as large as that wall and as brilliant as present time. You got that idea? Good. Now get the idea it'd spoil the game if you did it, and don't do it."

The goal of this course:

"And the goal of Theta1. theta is thought, life force, elan vital, the spirit, the soul, or any other of the numerous definitions it has had for some thousands of years. (SOS, p. 4)...More Clear is terrifically valid to go for. And that's what we're going to teach you to do in this course."

Anatomy

A lecture given on 9 April 1959

Content: It gets really interesting when he talks aboutː
a) how and what the meter2. Hubbard Electrometer. An electronic instrument for measuring mental state and change of state in individuals, as an aid to precision and speed in auditing. The E-meter is not intended or effective for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of any disease. (Scn AD)...more registers,
b) the fact that mental mass, energy, space and time is the same as physical universe MEST1. a coined word, meaning matter, energy, space and time, the physical universe. All physical phenomena may be considered as energy operating in space and time. The movement of matter or energy in time is the measure of space. All things are mest except theta. (Abil 114-A)...More. And this happens when we examine the anatomy of the mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE.

Postulates, circuits and misownership are added. Ron is in his element and crystal clear. Pieces come together. One gets a glimpse at the big picture – not that you can as-is the mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE afterwards. But perhaps the possibility becomes pleasantly realǃ

Hypnotism and irresponsibility explained.

The differences and definitions of lock, dub-in, mock-up, secondary and engram1. a mental image picture which is a recording of a time of physical pain and unconsciousness. It must by definition have impact or injury as part of its content. (HCOB 23 Apr 69) 2. a specialized kind of facsimile. This differs from other mental pictures because it contains, as part of its content, unconsciousness and physical pain. (Dn 55!, p. 12) 3. a complete recording, down to the last accurate detail, of every perception present in a moment of partial or full unconsciousness. (Scn 0-8, p. 11)...more explained.

This is a most interesting datum:

"You can put a person's time track back together again, that has become scrambled, and you can do a tremendous amount for him. You could just sit there with an E-Meter, take experiences that he can see - you know, in terms of locks, secondaries, engrams - and just find each one in time for him. And gradually get his time track lined up and he would be in much better shape. That all by itself."

What Can Be Done with a Mind (Reality Scale)

A lecture given on 9 April 1959

For your convenience: [SCALE OF REALITY, 1. the reality scale refers to the individual’s hold on reality and his agreement with others on what reality is. (NOTL, p. 103) 2 . at the bottom there is nothing, above that there is a communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. Mechanisms of the Mind

A lecture given on 14 April 1959

Content:
The advantages of physics above other sciences. It's orderly fashion.
Order versus chaos.
Order as a means to improve a preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' PC in auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975).
Order reduces confusion.
Confusion and the stable datum.
Randomity, motion - too little and too much of it.

Why the "old" processes are so powerful:

"For years I've been inventing processes that were too high. Gradually these have scaled down. Now you can runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) the whole backtrack of research from now, back to the beginning, and you will find this consistently going up-scale on a casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63). Get the idea? Because most research has been directed toward undercutting a casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63)."

Codes

A lecture given on 15 April 1959

Content:

"Today we're going to talk about codes. Now, this could also be an answer of what does an auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more do, or how does an auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. Note: The Auditor's Code point #11 is not mentioned (Never get angry with a preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. The Code of a Scientologist

A lecture given on 15 April 1959

Content:

"How to get along with a preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' PC" is the way you could say the Auditor's Code reads but how to get along with the public is the subtitle of the Scientologist's Code. And these are two codes on two different dynamicsthere could be said to be eight urges (drives, impulses) in life. These we call dynamics. These are motives or motivations. We call them the eight dynamics. The first dynamic -is the urge toward existence as one’s self. Here we have individuality expressed fully. This can be called the self dynamic...more. It's very important that you recognize that they have the same basic rationale on both dynamicsthere could be said to be eight urges (drives, impulses) in life. These we call dynamics. These are motives or motivations. We call them the eight dynamics. The first dynamic -is the urge toward existence as one’s self. Here we have individuality expressed fully. This can be called the self dynamic...more. This is how to get results on a pc - the Scientologist's Code is actually, to a marked degree, how to get results on the public. It's very fascinating that very few people have ever understood that ethics1. The rules or standards governing the conduct of the members of a profession. (HCO PL 3 May 72). 2. A system of removing the counter-effort to the forward push. (6711C18SO) are basically merely good sense.

A lecture given on 16 April 1959

Content:
Mostly about the Logics and Prelogics. (The Axioms will be tackled detailed in the next lecture.)

A good start with a joke:

"I am very, very happy to tell you today that I have notes. This is a very fine thing, to have notes. Your notes know all about it, you don't have to know a thing. When you get a pc all you do is take the notes, put them down on the auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more chair and go out for a smoke, come back and he's Clear3. a Clear is not an all-knowing being. A Clear is somebody who has lost the mass, energy, space and time connected with the thing called mind . ( SH Spec 80, 6609C08) ...more. I mean, there's nothing to it!"
"... whether these Axioms were right or wrong was beside the point, they were the first attempt to organize a study of the mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE into precise terms."
" Now, the Logics and Prelogics are just as much a part of the Axioms of Scientology as they were the Axioms of Dianetics1. It disposed of body illness and the difficulties a thetan was having with his body. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more. You should not forget, or lose sight of, the Prelogics and the Logics, because much of the material which you have before you stems straight out of the Prelogics."
"... we had to sort things out about knowingness before we could know about something. Well, we find the fundamentals of knowingness are contained in the Prelogics and Logics."

Ron goes into the subject of education and relates it to the axioms etc.

"... knowingness plus communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more equals application."

Axioms – Second Lecture

A lecture given on 16 April 1959

Another of Ron's jokes to begin the lecture:

"I asked old-time Scientologist one time a brain1. another part of the nervous system which receives and sends impulses to the body parts. (SPB) 2. a neuro-shock absorber. It has very little to do with thinking. (SH Spec 75, 6608C16) 3. a very mechanical rattletrap sort of a switchboard that’s been thrown together by you in order to translate thought into action and to coordinate energy. (5203CM03B) cracker. I asked him, "Do you locate your postulates2. a postulate is, of course, that thing which is a directed desire or order, or inhibition, or enforcement, on the part of the individual in the form of an idea. (2ACC 23A, 5312CM14) 3. that self-determined thought which starts, stops or changes past, present or future efforts. (APIA, p. 33) 4. is actually a prediction. (5112CM30B)-v...MORE firmly in space or time, or are your postulates2. a postulate is, of course, that thing which is a directed desire or order, or inhibition, or enforcement, on the part of the individual in the form of an idea. (2ACC 23A, 5312CM14) 3. that self-determined thought which starts, stops or changes past, present or future efforts. (APIA, p. 33) 4. is actually a prediction. (5112CM30B)-v...MORE not located in space or time? Now, which do you do?" And he told me the next year that..." (laughter)

Ron tells a story about how he had died in a previous life and what it was like being a ghost and explains the mechanisms involved with forgettingness, etc.
Actually this lecture is not just on Axioms but - more basic - on postulates2. a postulate is, of course, that thing which is a directed desire or order, or inhibition, or enforcement, on the part of the individual in the form of an idea. (2ACC 23A, 5312CM14) 3. that self-determined thought which starts, stops or changes past, present or future efforts. (APIA, p. 33) 4. is actually a prediction. (5112CM30B)-v...MORE.
These materials actually have the potential to produce casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63)-gain in a student.

At the very end of that lecture, Ron remarks:

"You'll graduate from this course, by the way, having had a greater coverage of Scientology than has been given in any course including ACCsAdvanced Clinical Courses - ACCs - one of a number of theory and research courses usually delivered by L. Jack Horner was the only other person who was in charge of an ACC. for nine years."

Types of Auditing

A lecture given on 21 April 1959

Joke to begin:

"At first we have to begin with an historical note. Take a gourd rattle. Take some pepper. You throw the pepper into the patient's eyes and nose and then shake the gourd rattle like mad in one ear while screaming shrilly in the other ear. Got that? Having induced an adequate state of shock, you then say, "You are well. You are well. You are well." You see? And that's possibly the ... one of the early, if not the earliest forerunner of auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975)."

Content:
This lecture is not about the various auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) styles or grades known in Scientology. It is rather about the two basic kinds of therapies. An evil, destructive "black" one and the good, pro-survival, "white" kind of practice. Ron explains how this split came about.

Note: The principles of this material are applicable to other areas than therapy.

"Now, the only way Scientology will ever go off the rails and be used for bad purposes is by failing consistently and continually, by having bits and pieces of it forgotten, being dropped away from this and that and the other thing to merely a form preserved and no understanding of it preserved at all. In other words, if people can no longer produce a result with it, they get down into a despair category, "Well, it doesn't matter what you do." And after that whyThat basic outness found which will lead to a recovery of stats. (HCO PL 13 Oct 70 II), it's just, 'Well, let's just destroy everything and everybody.' You see, 'We can't do anything and so let's destroy everybody.' "
"Then you could say that, basically, as we look over types of auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975), we aren't just looking over our own activities in the field of auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975). We're looking over the broad view of the whole trackThe whole track is the moment to moment record of a person's existence in this universe in picture and impression form. (HCOB 9 Feb 66) and we find that every time auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) or psychotherapy became defective or forgotten or inefficient or when it ran up against problems it knew not what of; it then tended to downgrade into doing anything, and then doing anything because it didn't matter, and then simply destroying the things it was supposed to heal."
"And if you want to know what a totally black operation would be, it'd - just runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) a negative Auditor's Code on every clause in it and you've got it. It'd make about the blackest operation you ever heard of. But nobody would do that unless he was in total despair."

Modern Auditing Types

A lecture given on 21 April 1959

Content:
The second lecture on auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) types now deals not with the history of counselling, but rather with the contemporary styles pertaining to Dianetics1. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more and Scientology.
The bad ones like "book auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) ), "coffee-shop auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. The informal ones like e.g. assists.

Formal auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975).

Note: There is interesting data about how to get a pc in session (interested in own casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63)). Now, this technique could be utilized for other purposes than auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. Types of Cases

A lecture given on 22 April 1959

Here we get deeper insight into how various other practices tried to resolve the matter of e.g. insanity. It is with the application of shock which pushes a patient even lower on the ARC1. a word from the initial letters of Affinity, Reality, Communication which together equate to Understanding. It is pronounced by stating its letters, A-R- C. To Scientologists it has come to mean good feeling, love or friendliness, such as “He was in ARC with his friend.” One does not, however, fall out of ARC, he has an ARC break. (LRH Def. Notes)...more scale than the point of his insanity, namely below sensation. Without sensing anything he appears to be more mentally healthy. That's an appearance only. If one can follows the deep logic Ron applies here, one gets a good hold on whyThat basic outness found which will lead to a recovery of stats. (HCO PL 13 Oct 70 II) he talked so negatively about certain practices.

"Types of cases then boil down to just this: is the degree of reality the individual is capable of attaining. That's about all you can say about a casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) - just to be a blunt package statement - to give reality he's capable of attaining. Individual who is terrifically high on the scale is very frightening to have around for an entirely different reason. That's up in the middle ranges. His self-determinism permits him to create for himself almost any kind of an atmosphere or reality he cares to have. You know? He says, "Well, I feel gloomy today," and he feels gloomy. That's it. Or he says, "Well, isn't it a lovely day and I feel happy." It's a lovely day and he's happy. It's as - almost as simple as that, you see. He creates his own environment, you might say. He might have contests against the creation of his own environment and so forth, but he's always making it one way or the other."
"And it's very weird that people in general are so reverted or obverted or something of the sort that they fear wrong way to. They think the quiet person who doesn't give any trouble, he's the nice one to have around. Yet he's the one who always sets the house on fire - if we've got to have people always setting houses on fire. And they say the person at the top of the scale who's just dreaming it all up in all directions and so on, he's really dangerous to have around. Well, this is not true. It's an exact reverse look."
"As far as casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) types are concerned, there is just one casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) type. And that is a thetan1. the living unit we call, in Scn, a thetan, that being taken from the Greek letter theta, the mathematic symbol used in Scn to indicate the source of life and life itself. (Abil Ma 1) 2. the awareness of awareness unit which has all potentialities but no mass, no wave-length and no location. (HCOB 3 Jul 59) 3. the being who is the individual and who handles and lives in the body. (HCOB 23 Apr 69)...more going down scale into a gradient scale of advanced difficulties with affinity1. the feeling of love or liking for something or someone. Affinity is a phenomena of space in that it expresses the willingness to occupy the same place as the thing which is loved or liked...more, reality and communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more. And out of this gradient scale we get an apparency of many casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) types. But when we add particular engrams making people in particular ways, then we get an enormous new number of casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) - apparent casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) types. And then it flies out the window if we don't know anything about it at all. There's apparently one casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) type per person and we - that's it."
"This is something to remember when you're looking at somebody. Affinity, reality, communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more - these factors established will give you entrance to the casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63), will let you classify the casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63), will let you predict the casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) and let you straighten it out. Unless you yourself are too greatly at war with his reality to recognize that that is his reality, you will succeed every time with such cases and they won't fool you and runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) up a bunch of failures on you."

Assessment

A lecture given on 22 April 1959

Note: "Assessment" refers here only to the first definition in the Technical Dictionary: [ASSESSMENT, an inventory and evaluation of a preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' PC, his body and his casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) to establish processing level and procedure. (HCOBHubbard Communications Office Bulletin (technical bulletin) Also colloquially referred to as "red on white" HCOB's are always red ink on white paper. 3 Jul 59, General Information )]

"To acquire the trick of being able to observe a reality that is not your reality and merely observe it as that reality and then take the proper amount of responsibility to adjust it, is a very interesting discipline, and one that a lot of auditors fall from grace on."
"Now, the common auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more error - the common auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more error is to repress change because of incredulity. And it's just these first two laws that I gave you there.
1: You've got to look at the person's reality, observe it, see it for what it is. That is his reality, you see.
And then, 2: Take enough responsibility for it to change it up to a better confronted reality, You see? Those are the two things you're supposed to do. So anything else that is introduced over on the top of this simply defeats the whole purpose of auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) - as neat as you please"
"Now, when you assess a casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) you're looking for the other-determinisms which, if relieved, will permit self-determinism to occur. Definition, technical. When you're assessing a casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) you're looking for other-determinism which, if relieved, will permit self-determinism. Do you see this?"
"Well, what about this. Assessment. We're looking, basically, for bad cause, which means cause calculated to undermine the self-determinism, independence, good health and continued survival of the pc. That's what we're looking for. We're looking for bad cause."
"Now, you can understand a lot about cases, understand a tremendous amount about cases, if you understand that the mechanism of self-invalidation is mixed up with every computation. Because the bad cause valence which is dominant on the casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) is seeking to make nothing out of the individual - the thetan1. the living unit we call, in Scn, a thetan, that being taken from the Greek letter theta, the mathematic symbol used in Scn to indicate the source of life and life itself. (Abil Ma 1) 2. the awareness of awareness unit which has all potentialities but no mass, no wave-length and no location. (HCOB 3 Jul 59) 3. the being who is the individual and who handles and lives in the body. (HCOB 23 Apr 69)...more, you see. But the thetan1. the living unit we call, in Scn, a thetan, that being taken from the Greek letter theta, the mathematic symbol used in Scn to indicate the source of life and life itself. (Abil Ma 1) 2. the awareness of awareness unit which has all potentialities but no mass, no wave-length and no location. (HCOB 3 Jul 59) 3. the being who is the individual and who handles and lives in the body. (HCOB 23 Apr 69)...more is actually fighting for some type of determinism or control over a bad cause factor. And you've got a fight consisting of at least two terminals, one synthetic and one live - the thetan1. the living unit we call, in Scn, a thetan, that being taken from the Greek letter theta, the mathematic symbol used in Scn to indicate the source of life and life itself. Present Time

A lecture given on 23 April 1959

Subjects:
What a Time-Track is.
Groupers.
Time, the sole factor of aberration.
Valences, dub-in and other things preclears use to not-is their own time track. Tricks and remedies to that.
The PT factor, what is PT (present time) to the preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' PC?

"All right. Now, if you understand something of this mechanism - that a person does have a series of experiences plotted against time, he has lived them, he has lived through them and those are his, and they will always be his, but that he does peculiar and odd things about them to make them vanish - such a mechanism of saying they never existed, such a mechanism of being somebody else who didn't have that time track, you see. Such a mechanism of saying, 'Well, past lives don't exist.' It's just another mechanism of disowning a time track. And you get - you get these complex views. But this must never disturb your definition of a time track because the time track we're defining has not ceased to exist! Quite interesting, but that time track has not ceased to exist just because he's taking up other mechanisms to defeat it. He's still got this time track. It's still there. I'm afraid he never wins in getting rid of one. And the only way basically they can ever get clear of a time track, is to confront it and experience it. If he's unwilling to confront it and experience it, all other mechanisms are not-is mechanisms. He's trying to not-is this track, and he has all sorts of weird ways of doing it - and they are the ways of the Reality Scale, of course."
"You could walk through an insane asylum and stop every patient you met in the corridors, and say to them -just look at them, say, "Come up to present time." "Thank you." And go to the next one that you meet, "Come up to present time." "Thank you." Just go through the whole place like that. You know, you would have taken a certain percentage of cases into total - from total insanity to sanity. And they would be quite miraculous and nobody would be able to understand this great magic that you had exerted, if they didn't know about time tracks."

Use of the E-Meter in Locating Engrams

About the only thing that can shoot a pc down on a graph is bad auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. SHPA-20 - 5904C28

Theory of Processes

A lecture given on 28 April 1959

Content in a nutshell:

"The main thing - the main thing that you should know about processes is that they won't do anything for anybody anyplace. That's the first thing you should know about them. You can write one down in a book and you can put the book on the auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more's chair and you can go away and you can come back hours later and nothing has happened."
"Now, what does do something? All the process is, is the postulate on which a series of errors have accumulated, which postulate has become an effect-point in the pc rather than a cause point. And all the process does is reverse effect-point to cause-point."
"Now, let's look at this in terms of determinisms. The postulate is no longer self-determined in the pc but is other-determined in the pc. You got the idea? Now all you have to do, then, is reverse effect to cause or - which is the same way of saying it - other-determinism to self-determinism. And that is what a process is. It, however, is simply a thought; it is inactive, it is inert."
"Because in the normal course of cause and effect, in the normal course of trying to stay self-determined amongst a million other-determinisms, the individual, no matter what he tried to do anywhere, would eventually have gotten pretty lost. It was pretty inevitable that he got lost. It isn't - we can say, "Well, it's his fault," or "It's other people's fault," and so on. Well, it's nobody's fault. It's a universe."
"Now reverse-wise you wouldn't even use a word to describe the isness of a wall. And it's rather wonderful that in Scientology we can describe things which can't be described. And we do this all the time. You don't realize to what degree we do this. We describe the undescribable. That probably is the greatest development of Dianetics1. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more and Scientology, is the language of observation. It's been developed inside the subject."
"So we are coming up. So if we ever hit truth on the most agreed upon agreement, on the button, knck, it tends to resolve it. And a person ceases to be the total effect of it, simply because total effect means that he can't even understand it. He's below it. If he understands it, he's at least getting up even with it somewhere. Processing puts you above it."
"Now, because you make him touch it, you are putting him on a little bit of a via, true, because it's you that's making him touch it. But you're putting him into position of being cause toward it. Now, what is it you've got? You've got him on a reach. See this? You've got him on a reach to it. Now, all you're processing directly is exactly what I've been talking to you about. The process, the commands of 8-C, and so forth, would not work at all if it weren't for just what I told you about and if it weren't for the fact that you were making him touch the wall and that doingness had been added to the actual theory."
"So, a process does these two things: increases his familiarity and puts him at cause. A process which doesn't do those two things is worthless, useless, and actually should be discouraged by you."
"Now, this is quite interesting - quite interesting to look over processing and recognize that it's based, first and foremost, on a postulate - the reversal of the postulate. You see, the person's got the postulate, is the total effect of the postulate and isn't familiar with it, doesn't even know he's got this postulate, you see? So you just increase his familiarity with it which you can do in a lecture. And sometimes a person listening to a lecture all of a sudden gets a tremendous cognition3. something a pc suddenly understands or feels. “Well, what do you know about that?” (HCOB 25 Feb 60) Abbr. Cog...More. You know. Bing! You know. Wow! You know. Bang! Well, he's just been submerged below a recognition of something, you see? And he comes suddenly into a recognition of the thing. Well, he's already started on his lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976)."
"Now, the next thing is the individual in his ability to confront the isness of something, you might say, or conceive the isness of something, gets more and more at cause-point over it and so his responsibility picks up and he eventually comes up into responsibility for creation of it. Now, that doesn't matter whether it's a wall or a thought or an idea. It doesn't matter what it is but he recognizes creation of it. And this is - this is quite normally covered by a very sloppy word: cognition3. something a pc suddenly understands or feels. “Well, what do you know about that?” (HCOB 25 Feb 60) Abbr. Cog...More."
"Communication is the common denominator of all processes."
"People will self-auditThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975). They self-auditThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) on the simple mechanism of setting up a circuit1. a part of an individual’s bank that behaves as though it were someone or something separate from him and that either talks to him or goes into action of its own accord, and may even, if severe enough, take control of him while it operates. A tune that keeps going around in someone’s head is an example of a circuit. (NOTL Gloss)...more to auditThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) them, or they are auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) a circuit1. a part of an individual’s bank that behaves as though it were someone or something separate from him and that either talks to him or goes into action of its own accord, and may even, if severe enough, take control of him while it operates. A tune that keeps going around in someone’s head is an example of a circuit. (NOTL Gloss)...more, because it's a "two" universe."
"... individuation is another factor in processing."

This lecture - the content of this lecture - is the most comprehensible and compact philosophical teaching about the universe, us, existence and the mutual relationships of, and their possible resolution, you may have encountered in a long while.

"And the whole thing boils down to the fact that you actually pilot him into greater familiarity and greater communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more with the net result that you wind up with a greater reality. When you do this, you have somebody who can confront and who is oddly enough - and I suppose quite by accident, but very true - he is more social, he is more capable, he is a better asset of the society, he's somebody to know, he's somebody to talk to. Before then, he was just a ball of flesh rolling about out of contact with everything."

Processes

A lecture given on 28 April 1959

Content:
This is about the preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' PC, his attitudes, etc.

"And this is the basic lie that gets him into trouble. That is the lie that gets him into trouble right across the boards. He wasn't willing to have it happen so he says he had no part in it. And the only answer to that is he must be the effect of all of it - if he couldn't have caused any of it. Well, he was part of it, wasn't he? Well, that's obvious. He's demonstrating it with a broken leg and the little child is demonstrating it with a child's body and the psycho is demonstrating it by being in a spinbin. And this is demonstrated conclusively that he's part of this. But if he says, "Under no circumstances was I causative in this," he is saying, "I'm not willing to have had any of this occur", he then only leaves one door open, and that's effect. Because it's a two-pole universe. If you're not cause you're an effect. That's it. It's as simple as that."
"Now, an individual who is at pan-determinism would see clearly where he was at cause and where he was at effect. He would see this very clearly. But as we go on down the lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976), we find there's only one point of the cause-distance-effect lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976), only one point of it that has to be stressed, and that's cause. The pc must be placed at cause because that's one place he won't go. He'll go to effect."
"Now, as you look this over in an auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) session, the more the pc is obsessively being an effect and the less willing he is to be cause, the more difficult his casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) will be. Now, that is how you assess a difficult casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63). That is how you assess one. You find out - one of the first things that you want to know is what's this individual willing to cause? What is he willing to have had, you see, and cause? What causative point was he willing to occupy?"
"... it's not propaganda; it's not an argument. It's true! The fellow who will not be processed is nuts! That's it! It's your best diagnosis."
"Improve the pc's causativeness. Improve the pc's responsibility, Improve, and do not violate, the pc's willingness, with improvements in his communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more, and you've got auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975)!"
"When a person can be brought into communication1. the consideration and action of impelling an impulse or particle from source point across a distance to receipt point with the intention of bringing into being at the receipt point a duplication and understanding of that which emanated from the source point. (HCOB 5 Apr 73)...more, a person can be brought into confrontingness. When he's brought into confrontingness he can be brought into causation, responsibility, willingness, he'll change and numerous other listed - already covered - things will occur in the casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63)."
"The process is the method by which you achieve the goals of improving the causation, the responsibility, the willingness and of course the affinity1. the feeling of love or liking for something or someone. Affinity is a phenomena of space in that it expresses the willingness to occupy the same place as the thing which is loved or liked...more and reality of the preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. Processing of Children

A lecture given on 29 April 1959

"A child is much worse off - not because I have anything on children, just cold experience - a child is much worse off than most adults. A little kid running around, you think he's happy, so on? Ah - ah, let's look at him, let's look at him. Yeah, he's got every chance in the world. He has hope. He's got the future. He has the hopes of growing up. That's what's keeping him going. But let's look at him actually. How many hours of sleep does he need? How often does he have to eat in order to keep going? What is his commonest response of protest? There's a nice index of Tone Scale, isn't it? He cries. Well, a lot of children are too far down scale to cry. A child that cries easily is in pretty good shape."
"Now, just look at him as a casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63), not as a child. Then you have the secret of child processing. Don't keep saying, "Well, he's a little child so. . ." so on and so on and so on and follow out the social dramatization1. to repeat in action what has happened to one in experience. That’s a basic definition of it, but much more important, it’s a replay now of something that happened then. It’s being replayed out of its time and period. (SH Spec 72, 6607C28)...more of "All is excused, because children are children and boys will be boys and platitudes will be platitudes," and on and on and on, see? These are all just not-isnesses of observation.""
"What processes do you runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) on a child? The maxim, the golden rule of auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) is: Find something the pc can do, and get him to do it better."
"Now, if we - if we try to categorize children as a special casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63), and say "Well, children are a special casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) and you have to be a terrific expert," we would be playing you false. This is not true. The main message on it is children are preclears."

Electronic Phenomena of the Mind

A lecture given on 30 April 1959

Content description by Ron:

"When we say electronic, everybody winces. They think we're talking about electronics or electronics people. We're not talking about electronics people. We're talking about the bits and things that go through the air before a person's field of vision when he's got his eyes closed or the zits and zats and zrups that hit the body, the steady pressures that smash down somebody's chest, the-all sorts of odd phenomena that has to do with little electrical shocks that a person gets, the ringing, singing sensations that they get in their ears, pressures they get against their faces, inside their skulls and oddities of masses that they seem to detect. And how they draw a curtain in front of their faces so they can't see their facsimiles1. any mental picture, that is unknowingly created and part of the time track is a facsimile, whether an engram, secondary, lock or pleasure moment. (HCOB 15 May 63) 2. a theta recording. All physical perceptions, all effort, emotion and thought which a person experiences are recorded continuously, and these recordings are called “facsimiles.” They are not dependent upon an organism for their continued existence. Any facsimile which has been recorded is there to be recalled-when the individual has risen high enough on the tone scale,...more and all of that sort of thing. Got the idea? Now, that's what we're talking about."
"Now, basically, what are we talking about when we're talking about a mental image picture? At first, it is in the terms of an electronic mass of some sort. That's usually in those terms. It's made out of some sort of standing waves or electrical energy or projection. There's a lot of electronic phenomena connected with just seeing a mental image picture."
"You start having a fellow mock up masses and push them into the body, mock up masses and push them into the body, then hold them in, you know, and keep them mocked up, mock up masses and push them into the body-just watchEvery member of a ship's company has two general types of activities, one of these is as a member of watches, wherein he handles his duties of steering, lookout, engines, etc., including emergency drills. (FO 1109) your E-Meter. Your E-Meter needle will start doing things. Well, it just has to do with the density and resistance of this particular mass - electronic phenomena. More important to you is the behavior of the pc under the influence of these things."

Here is a bit about philosophy.

"But let me point out something to you. If anything can have an effect upon you, you certainly can take causepoint toward it. Anything can have an effect upon you, you certainly can take cause-point in its direction. Well, that's for sure. That's for sure. And if there is knowledge that is totally above your power to learn, then it will never exist for you or for anybody you know, so skip it."

But as we break these things down, as the information flows more broadly and it flows better, it's more intelligible, it's more effective, we find ourselves in the favored position of never having imposed a great secrecy of any kind on this particular body of knowledge."
