Picture now missing on Alan C. Walter biography

http://scientolipedia.org/info/Alan_C._Walter

The last picture, large one on the left, is now missing (frame still there)

Antony A Phillips (talk)11:39, December 2, 2015

For some unknown (to me) reason, it looks like five files uploaded between November 18 and November 22 did not survive the recent site move.

You can see them here:

http://scientolipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:NewFiles

Try re-uploading one of them, with the same file name preferably, and see if it then displays correctly on the page. (if you re-upload with a different file name then the page where it's used will have to be edited as well)

It that works, upload the remaining.

Dl88008 (talk)14:11, December 2, 2015

Um! That means I've got to find four pictures and upload them again. Keep me busy! Thanks for info.

Antony A Phillips (talk)15:58, December 2, 2015

The picture is back in place on Alan C.Walter's page. Fairly effortless. Now for the other three.

Antony A Phillips (talk)14:10, December 3, 2015

Problem! With the first one (and I expect the others are the same, they're made by the same photographer at the same time). Warning reads: This file is bigger than the server is configured to allow. and: Maximum file size: 2 MB. Under Windows Explorer it says that the file is – size: 3,51 MB Can you reconfigure the server?

Antony A Phillips (talk)14:43, December 3, 2015

I changed a setting to allow up to 50MB - try it and let me know.

Dl88008 (talk)19:18, December 3, 2015

Thanks. I'll get onto this later. However The Alan C.Walter picture I reinstated has gone haywire again. The frame is now smaller and contains the caption (occupying a smaller frame) and above that reference to the picture. This might have been caused by Roger Boswarva trying unsuccessfully to load the same picture up again. I will be working on these later in the day.

Antony A Phillips (talk)07:10, December 4, 2015

The upload window gives a maximum size of 8 MB still.

I successfully loaded the two first pictures on the "Books – Scientology…" Page. Uploading took four minutes. The last picture took only two minutes to upload but didn't come onto the page although I tried again. I then deleted the entry for the picture in Scientolipedia, and this time the upload worked.

Thanks for your help in this,

Antony A Phillips (talk)17:21, December 4, 2015

How to get "category" at end of a page altered when creating an article?

Recent article I have put in, have come up as category articles, despite the fact that in the rh upper box I have put them as History of Scientology. At the end of the article in a page wide box, the category of articles appears and I can not see how to alter that.

Antony A Phillips (talk)08:51, May 16, 2015

You don't want to alter that Category at the bottom of the page.

The data structure of mediawiki is primarily built on Categories as you see listed at the bottom of the page. (there can be more tan one)

The "properties" you see in the infoboxes are a different and separate way of organizing data. The full description of this is too complicated to answer here but you can see all the categories and properties from your "adminA contraction or shortening of the word administration, admin is used as a noun to denote the actions involved in administrating an organization. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). links" page. (if we do a Skype sometime I can go into more detail)

Maybe time you Skyped. or something.

We have at the end of one article: But when I actually go and look (as an ordinary citizen) at Books about Scientology, Lo and Behold, there are only two books. Would I be liable to an SPSuppressive Person: 2. a person who rewards only down statistics and never rewards an up statistic. He goofs up or vilifies any effort to help anybody and particularly knifes with violence anything calculated to make human beings more powerful or intelligent. A suppressive automatically and immediately will curve any betterment activity into something evil or bad...More order if I edited the end of All articles about MetaScn books (like the one I have just made) and added in the end:  ?

PS: This (letter above) does not make sense, because things in square brackets are omitted. What I want to add at the end of those article is square bracket square bracket Category:Books about Scientology end square bracket end square bracket.

Antony A Phillips (talk)12:36, July 4, 2015

The information in the upper right infobox is separate and different from the use of categories...even though it uses the word "category" there. Those infobox "properties" are used to runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) queries on pages.

e.g. see the auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more listings page where the data from auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more infoboxes are used to print out a variety of different listings based on the various "properties" on auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more pages. http://scientolipedia.org/info/Auditor_Listings

The Categories part of the website are used to organize the data in broad categories. We add pages to categories by adding the wiki markup syntax such as Categgory:xyzabc123 to the bottom of the page.

We'll have a Skype session soon to help clarify if the above is confusing. (likely) lol

Dl88008 (talk)16:53, July 4, 2015

Not confusing, thanks. I will go ahead with the {books ...} category. Thanks. Ant.

Developers Needed - Carreer opportunity

Anyone with experience developing web applications should consider developing for Scientolipedia.

Examples:

1. Brian Cox developed the iOS App for Scientolipedia as a dissemination tool but ALSO because he wanted to add this skill to his resume and eventually move into app dev for his career. Now we need someone to develop the android version. (Brian is willing to mentor and share with you what he learned from accessing the API for the iOS development)

2. There is a growing need for semantic mediawiki developers by large institutions. (the software this site uses) Look at the article about NASA using it and if you do a little research, you will find this is a growing niche.

We have a number of projects waiting for developers to step in and help bring them off.

The satisfaction you'll experience from knowing you are doing something positive to help disseminate truthful information about the SUBJECT of Scientology, it's people, history and the founder...makes adding a career skill at the same time a very wise choice.

Dl88008 (talk)16:54, September 6, 2015

I have passed this onto a friend who is about to retire. He helped me with the typesetting of IVy and has been working in a local council with their computers. All best wishes, Ant.

Site upgrade

Edited by author.
Last edit: 14:37, August 5, 2015

I'm in the process of upgrading the site software. This involved five major version upgrades (which includes about 8 point releasees each for a total of approx. 40 incremental upgrades) plus a couple dozen software extensions which make the site work. (maps require two extensions for example)

Most functionality has been restored but there are still some issues which I'm working through as quickly as possible. Below is a list of remaining items to fix - they'll get marked as "FIXED" as they're resolved.

Please reply with a note about anything you come across as not working.

 • FIXED facybox notice warning when using edit with form
 • FIXED (did a global find-and-replace of "frame" with "border") ...images with "frame" parameter displaying image as full size rather than specified size (changing it to "framless" instead fixes the sizing but I still need to figure out whyThat basic outness found which will lead to a recovery of stats. (HCO PL 13 Oct 70 II) the "frame" parameter doesn't work as before so that captions can work as well)
 • FIXED Dl88008 (talk) 09:37, August 5, 2015 (CDT) pop-up glossary not working (mouse over the word "affinity1. the feeling of love or liking for something or someone. Affinity is a phenomena of space in that it expresses the willingness to occupy the same place as the thing which is loved or liked...more" and you should see the new & improved smaller script displaying below the word rather than above it)
 • FIXED pages loading slow - upgrading the mediawiki software and the semantic mediawiki extension to the lates version haas sped up the site considerably (8-2-2015)
 • FIXED wiki editor warning when using edit with form. (wikieditor disabled in all forms except professional associations - leaving this as exmple for support persons to view)
 • FIXED - Header Tabs not working sitewide
 • FIXEDHeadertabs not working with forms
 • FIXEDauto-complete on category not working in success stories form
 • Arrays not working on new 'group' or 'auditors' forms - maybe others - needs to be checked
 • FIXED "edit with form" tab not showing on "Personal Profiles" pages, only "edit" tab.
 • FIXED (reverted to Vector skin) Flash MP3 not playing on CBR and Bevan Peece pages. Code is there but no show in Foreground skin.
 • FIXED SemanticAs used in this context, it refers to re-using data from web pages that would otherwise not be available anywhere other than the single web page it is published on. A Semantic Wiki like this one, is enhanced Wiki software (like this in-line glossary function) that is far more complex and sophisticated, with advanced data collection, display and reporting methods. It is able to make relationships in the presentation of data to the user in ways regular Internet applications cannot. Glossary broke with error message "Invalid or virtual namespace -1 given" after upgrading MW from 1.24.1 to 1.25.1
 • FIXED (8-2-2015 - server-side upgrade fixed this issue) Instant Commons is not working so that images from wikicommons are not displaying due to their change to https protoccol. (fix is I/P)
 • FIXED Cite extension broken after upgrade to 1.25.1
 • FIXED Dl88008 (talk) 14:47, August 3, 2015 (CDT) Calendar is broken since MW upgrade to 1.25 and will be until I can update SemanticAs used in this context, it refers to re-using data from web pages that would otherwise not be available anywhere other than the single web page it is published on. Mediawiki websites, like this one, have several built-in "skins" to choose from. Most wiki's use the same one Wikipedia uses called the "Vector" skin.(but users can choose from 4 or 5 others via their preferences link)

A skin, in wiki terminology, is the same idea as "templates" in Wordpress sites and it is the overall design and layout of the elements on pages.

There are a number of problems with the current default Vector skin we use:

 1. boring
 2. functional but 'old-fashioned'.- not a modern look
 3. not "responsive" i.e. doesn't display well on mobile devices and phones.

I've been planning to change the skin we use at Scientolipedia when/if I could acquire the skills to do so or recruit someone to do it for us. No one has come forward to do it for us so I installed a new skin on the site and am in the process of learning how to layout the Home page.

You can see this new skin over at http://freeheber.com where it's installed and running. (needs some tweaks and modifications but you can at least see how the navigation is moved to the very top of the page and various other differences.

You can also see how this site will look with this new skin by going to your 'preferences' (top of any page), select 'appearance' then select the "foreground" skin and save that (temporarily) as your default skin. Note the home page will have the layout messed up in this new skin (until the changes are made permanent) but you can go to any other page on the site to get an idea how much nicer the foreground skin is. (after you're done looking around go back to 'preferences' and revert to the 'Vector' skin so the site returns to the look you are used to.

I'm working on a new layout for the Home page and once that is done will change the site to have everyone using the Foreground skin. (there won't be any other options at that point)

The new skin will make visiting scientolipedia.org a better experience for everyone - especially those arriving via tablet or phone device (about 30% of site visitors currently - and expected to grow)

Your feedback is welcome!

Dave

Dl88008 (talk)20:55, March 1, 2015

Well Done - it has come through. Reminds of the days of my middle age, when now and again, newspapers changed their format involving much and some times heated discussion on whether it was a good idea or not. Of course it needs tweeking a bit. I like that dreary menu being replaced with neat items at the top. Need a bit more space around pictures. And particularly (though probably not part of the skin) Bevan Preece interview does not appear in one browser on my android tablet, and on the other something is there which flashed up "not supported" when you dare approach it. Probably not part of the skin, but the audios, especially the two hour Bevan Preece interview, need to show how many minutes you have got into it. I'd call the "skin-fit" a very well done.

Antony A Phillips (talk)18:39, March 11, 2015

Thanks for letting me know about the MP3 player not working. I added it to the to the list of repairs needed. (site could use a correction list)

Dl88008 (talk)20:47, March 11, 2015

We've reverted to the "Vector"(original) skin until some bugs in the "Foreground" skin can be worked out.

The display of pages and some features were not working in the new skin.

You can still use the Foreground skin by selecting in your preferences. (top of any page)

What is patrol and patrol log? (Comes in the log in lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) when logged in under Admin links, and then (in the box) "Show patrol log")

Antony A Phillips (talk)10:58, February 16, 2015

A way of marking pages for admins. Wikipedia uses it but they have thousands of edits daily - we don't need it.

Dl88008 (talk)15:48, February 16, 2015

I saw one of mine was marked patrol when I edited some one else's page (http://scientolipedia.org/info/Clearbird ) So is that the idea - an edit of a page by someone "patrolling" for improving pages cosmetically, correcting spellings and seeing there is some sort of similarity about the set up of pages? Aren't we hoping for at least hundreds of edits daily in due course?

Antony A Phillips (talk)16:44, February 16, 2015

I've never used it - so now you know as much about it as I do. :-)

Dl88008 (talk)19:04, February 16, 2015

Thanks - I felt my ability to do the anti Q and A drill was being challenged. Now I just need to know who I can worry to death to find out. But maybe I have reached the border lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) of making myself right and dominating over others and should shut up - with the background I have one is eternally afraid of possible ethics1. The rules or standards governing the conduct of the members of a profession. (HCO PL 3 May 72). 2. A system of removing the counter-effort to the forward push. (6711C18SO) :-)

Antony A Phillips (talk)18:01, February 17, 2015

Feel free to figure it out and see if it's something we should use. I happen to be up to my neck in alligators at the moment so can't really give the issue due attention.

Talk versus Discussion

In doing research for the entry I just made on Books - How to Choose Your People, I ran into the Talk page for the Wikipedia article on the Tone scale. Found it most interesting, particularly with regard to Wikipedias attitude and handling of Scientology. It is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Tone_scale . I mention it here because up to now I had identified Wikipedias "Talk" with Scientolipedia's "Discussion" (because it is at the same place - rather woolly thinking, perhaps).

In fact in preparing http://scientolipedia.org/info/Books_–_Scientology_–_excluding_LRH_books I have referred to the discussion page, invited people to use it to discuss the best presentation of short summaries of non LRHL. Ron Hubbard books, and put two items in, thinking that its purpose was the same as Wikipedia's "Talk" page. So now I need to know what is the purpose of the "Discussion" page if it is different from Wikipedia's "Talk", and if it is different, where can I get to discuss the make up of a page giving brief details of non LRHL. Ron Hubbard Scientology books?

I might add that I do not feel that discussion (on a part of Scientology) is relevant to Scientolipedia. There are blogs and lists and forums and facebook, and god knows what next will duck up, but anything claiming to be a pedia, which I take to mean it is an encyclopedia of a certain area, should concern itself with facts, not discussion, and the only discussion would be about how best to communicate those facts, which is what I thought the talk page was about. I have a relatively large amount of data on non LRHL. Ron Hubbard Scientology books, not to mention other things experienced in 60 years contact with this (for some) accursed subject, and want to make it available on Internet, rather than have the whole world storming my flat to see and hear for themselves :-)

Antony A Phillips16:40, February 4, 2015

"Talk" and "Discussion" are the same thing and part of the built-in functionality of Mediawiki. (the software this site and wikipedia both use)

I renamed the "Talk" pages to "Discussion" just to give it a more friendly or perhaps familiar naming, so people would know what it's for.

If we, or wikipedia, had a group of academics creating this 'pedia', then perhaps there would be no need for mere mortals to discuss the various topics. We would simply read their learned works and move along.

Wikipedia and this site are collaborative ventures and the data comes from many contributors - hence the need for discussion.

Ever heard of Encarta? Microsoft tried to sell an encyclopedia that was a packaged work and it died a deserved death.

Wikipedia is the number five most traffick'd site on the Internet with millions of views each day. Victory for the collaboration idea. :-)

Dl8800818:03, February 4, 2015

Good. So I go on the way I am. Interesting on Encarta - just looked it up briefly. I have the DVD/computer Encyclopedia Britannica, which I update every few years for a few shillings (so to speak). Consider it slightly more reliable than Wikipedia, but Wikipedia probably more up to date with latest trends - all irrelevant here (this thread). Thanks for the data - so I hope to get some feedback under discussion.

PS: What does "bump this thread" with a tick in a box mean? (Under what I am writing now, before I save the page - we are in for a rocky ride? :-) )

Antony A Phillips19:09, February 4, 2015

bump puts it to the top of the list of threads.

Keep Titles and URL's simple

Keeping title's of threads and page names simple helps people find the page or thread easier and also helps search engines display it easier too.

Page Title

Wrong: "The day I was walking down the street and talked to L Ron Hubbard about auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) extraterrestrials"
Better: "L Ron Hubbard and Extraterrestrials"

Thread Title

Wrong: "Thinking about some way to show a picture on a page with a caption underneath"
Better: "Captions with images"

In both cases, the simpler title makes it easier for both computers (search engines) and humans to easily see what the thread or page is about.

To any cautious, curious, possible helper to Scientolipedia

Intro[edit]

I imagine the thought of editing or submitting a page to a Wiki (be it Wikipedia or Scientolipedia) can be a bit forbidding.

Before you attempt it, you would probably be wise to have some experience with text handling on a computer - things like prettying up an email with italic, bold, even a colour or a colour background. So I suggest you have that understood. You should also understand things like moving the cursor around, highlighting passages and copy and paste (copy and paste is a very valuable tool, and there are two or three ways I know of of doing it).

Preliminary – have a login, and log in[edit]

If you know those things, then to look at details of Scientolipedia page making, you need a log in. If you have logged into other things you know how to do that. You will have to divulge some information about yourself, and choose a name (I'd prefer you to use something which helps me remember you, like your first and last name, as in my log in name AntPhillips).

See in detail what others have done[edit]

Having got that far you can explore. You can look in all sorts of nooks and crannies without disturbing anything, and (so far as I know) without leaving a trace of yourself.

Perhaps the first thing you could do is take a page (any one) try for example 1. This is a simple one, which I added something to.

You can (without disturbing anything, or getting your fingers bitten in any way) have a look at it's history – what changes have been made and by whom. Near the top of the page you will see View history (in light blue). Click on that. You will get a short list of three, the original setting up and two changes. Now the interesting bit comes. Click on the bottom "hole" (which at the moment is not filled in with a black ball). A black ball appears in it and an extra circle appears on the lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) above. Click on the right hand one of those two and you are ready to see what changes "AntPhillips" made. Click on either of those grey background boxes which says Compared selected revisions and you're in for the surprise of you life (if you have not done it before). For on the left you see what was first put up (it says by Dl88008 , which is Dave, but in this instance it was some sort of a clever programme putting 250 or so items up at the same time). On the left you see what I put up, but you see it with the formatting codes (most or all were put in by an easy way you will learn of soon - you are on the middle part of the cycle of action – persist). Below this you will see how the page looked after I made those changes.

No harm has been done. You have made no changes . And certainly not saved any, as you made none.

Now you could go back to the View history, and look (in the same way) at the later change, which Dave made. You need to analyse this a little carefully and you will see (in red) that he has deleted something I wrote in one place, and places it later and he has added a heading.

Fascinating, don't you think? (If you don't think it fascintaing either I have not explained it well enough, or this sort of work is not your cup of tea, so go back to auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975)).

If you want to go back to the original article, you can press (same lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) as the View History) either Page or Read. Nothing has been changed, and the changes you didn't make (or did perhaps, by accident) have not been saved.

I suggest you play around with a few more pages in this way. You learn by doing.

Tools available for editing[edit]

When you feel you have reached an EPend phenomena: 1. "those indicators in the pc and meter which show that a chain or process is ended." It shows in Dianetics that basic on that chain and flow has been erased, and in Scientology that the pc has been released on that process being run. (End Phenomenon) on that here is something else simple you could do to have some fun, and, again, not make any changes you might be afraid of being hung for. Incidentally, any change anybody makes can easily be reversed by an administrator.

This is what you do. Take any page (probably a simple one, or one you are interested in) and press on of the places marked Edit or Edit with form. Don't be afraid. The moment you open up such a page, at the end, there will be a place marked Cancel and pressing that will let you leave without changing anything, possibly without a trace that you have been there (covert :-) ).

Do it a few times with various things, til you no longer feel like a schoolboy, first day at school, afraid to do anything wrong (whoops – I got back onto my track). Unless you press a button marked save no change will be made (even if you do press save any administrator can easily change it back). Now at this point you can see the different tools available to you as an editor. Fiddle around and have a look at them.

Probably if you are curious, and try various things except the save, you will be ready to make small changes, or even set up a simple page. I can tell you a couple of places changes need to be made – and you might runUndergo processing. (Science of Survival, p.75) into others, like obvious spelling mistakes. By the way, if you do change a page, there is something called a watchEvery member of a ship's company has two general types of activities, one of these is as a member of watches, wherein he handles his duties of steering, lookout, engines, etc., including emergency drills. (FO 1109) list, and the person who has made the page will probably have it on his watchEvery member of a ship's company has two general types of activities, one of these is as a member of watches, wherein he handles his duties of steering, lookout, engines, etc., including emergency drills. (FO 1109) list and he will be informed. You have a job keeping secret changes you make.

Wikipedia[edit]

Incidentally, using some of the things I have mentioned above (notably View History) you can look at Wikipedia articles, and with Wikipedia you do not need a log in. I found it rather interesting.

Thanks Ant, good advice!

World's Best Auditor is a demo auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more's page anyone can mess around with for practice editing.

You are quite right about people not worrying about breaking anything. Anything can be reversed or undone.

Dl8800818:29, January 17, 2015

That's good. Using what I have described above (View history etc.) on World's Best Auditor you can see who has dared to try, and Dave's reverting to the original, etc. Incidentally if you edit World's Best Auditor doing that you can see the sort of tools you have to help you. Mouse over each symbol and you get told what they mean. Isn't the computer age truly wonderful? - when you know how :-(

Users - types of users - remote spamming

Edited by another user.
Last edit: 22:21, January 8, 2015

I wrote a question to Dave about the vast number of users (nearly all blocked) you find when (if you are logged in) you go to Admin links (on the lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) at the top with your user name and some menu points). When you have clicked Admin Links, go to user list under users - it is a bit ovewhelming the number of "ridiculous names" you find. [You can limit your search to (for example) just administrators]

Dave asked me to put further questions here (Development Page) so you can see his answers so, as a start, here are his answers to my questions.

See below (Daves answers in bold)

From: Ant Phillips [1] Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2015 12:21 PM To: Dave LaCroix Subject: users

Dear Dave,

I find there are 5 admnistrators on Scientolipedia, of which I am one. This seems not many. Any comment?

We need more people trained up.

Wow this was started some time ago :-( [refering to Ant email to Dave - I forgot about it partly written in my out basket]

I also see there is an enormous number of users, and some how I found out that nearly all I looked at had been blocked (I've forgotten how I found that out).

The first year or so the site didn't have good anti-spam so "bots" were creating new accounts daily and I was removing/blocking them daily. They are stored in the database and there is a way to delete them or clean all that up but it's a skill above my ability at this time.

Are you now getting entheta1. means enturbulated theta (thought or life); especially refers to communications, which, based on lies and confusions, are slanderous, choppy or destructive in an attempt to overwhelm or suppress a person or group. (Scn AD) 2. theta which has been confused and chaotically mixed with the material universe and which will lie in this confusion until death or some other process disenturbulates it. Theta, below 2.0 on the tone scale, we call entheta. (SOS, p. 41) 3. anger, sarcasm, despair, slyly destructive suggestions. (HTLTAE, p. 88) that you have to remove and block the sender? How many a week approx? How many a week when it was at its worse and whenabouts was that?

I don't get any spam now with the system I have in place. I was getting 10-20 per day before, which took 10-20 minutes per day to remove because the bots created pages and added spam links which had to be deleted.

Just curious, and attempting to establish the work involved in running the site.

Is there a place which defines the different categories of users? I cant find one.

"Admin links" (top of page) >> "Special Pages" >> "Users and rights"

All the best,

Ant

Thanks for asking! :-)
Dave

Success Stories

Success Stories can automatically show up on the auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more's page if you copy/paste Success Stories Code where you'd like the success stories to be listed on the page. (many auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more pages already have the code on their pages but if yours does not, then use the above)

To write a Success Story find the "Add Success Story" Form input on the Home page or go to the Create A Page page (left sidebar on any page on the site) to start the Success Stories Form.

If you've posted Success Stories on other blogs or Facebook, then simply copy/paste those as new Success Stories here. (be sure to select the auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more responsible so it shows up on their page)

Use unique names for your success stories so there is no naming conflict. There cannot be duplicate names of pages on the site.

e.g. (correct) "John Jones' Fantastic win on OTOperating Thetan - 7. this state of being is attained by drills and familiarity after the state of Clear has been obtained. A real OT has no reactive bank, is cause over matter, energy, space, time and thought and is completely free. (HCOB 12 Jul 65)...More III" (not likely to already exist)
e.g. (incorrect) "OTOperating Thetan - 7. this state of being is attained by drills and familiarity after the state of Clear has been obtained. A real OT has no reactive bank, is cause over matter, energy, space, time and thought and is completely free. (HCOB 12 Jul 65)...More III Success" (likely to already exist on the site - too generic)

Where is a page I made yesterday?

I made a short page yesterday. Where is it? Title began with historical (I made it after I made Historical – Effects of ban in entering UKAbbreviation for United Kingdom. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976) to study Scientology - 1969 which is there at Historical_–_Effects_of_ban_in_entering_UK_to_study_Scientology_-_1969. It concerned the early days of Internet, where people used proxy servers to be anonymous and avoid the church knowing who they were. But I can't find it now. I spent some time on it with numbers of reviews - do you have a backup (I don't - silly me!)? ¨¨¨¨

Antony A Phillips13:37, December 14, 2014

Go to "Browse Site" in sidebar. It's listed alphabetically in the Articles category.

Dl8800813:50, December 14, 2014

That's the one I know about, and it is OK. But I want the one I wrote also beginning "historical" in its title but concerning early Internet and the use of proxy servers to hide the identity of some one in the Church. ¨¨¨¨

Antony A Phillips13:57, December 14, 2014

It starts with the word "Early..." not "Historical..." Early Internet and Scientology :-)

Dl8800817:53, December 14, 2014

Oh Lord! Got it. (I originally intended it to start with historical - poor excuse. Thanks for data.) ¨¨¨¨

Antony A Phillips18:18, December 14, 2014

Lame excuse: Why did't the search engine know I meant "Early"? ¨¨¨¨

Where is the comprehensive list of signs/conventions used in editing?

Yesterday I put a page up, and ran across a long list of the conventions (like three or four tildes and square brackets - but much more). Now I want to find it and print it out, because I have trouble finding it while editing but I cannot (keep on hitting the same things :-( ) . Can you give me a link? ¨¨¨¨

wiki editor

1. There's a wiki text editor on every page. It's just above the free text area.

Click on the "Help" item and it gives the short-hand for most of the basic formatting syntax.

2. For more formatting tips, right click here and open as a new tab. (message found above the text area on most forms)

Remove Title of page

Sometimes the title of a page at the top is unnecessary, redundant and a bit messy or untidy.

When we use the Infoboxes, (upper right box) they most often have the title of the page in the top spot and so the additional title along the top edge of the page isn't really necessary and the page might look better if that were not there.

To remove the title along the top, simply put __NOTITLE__ anywhere on the page (usually at the very bottom) and the title will go away. (note double underscore on either side of the magic word)

FYI, there are a number of "magic words" like this the wiki software has built-in and you can learn them pretty easily.

e.g.__NOTOC__ (no table of contents) will remove the table of contents from the page.

The story of Scientology needs to be told in the most honest and unbiased way possible. The great people who gave so much to forward Scientology are an integral part of that story, for without the people, there would be no story to tell.

The wiki gives us the ideal platform to document the stories. Why is that? Because it's the only Internet software that allows any number of contributors to collaborate on projects such as this.

Scientology touches every aspect of life and is a very big subject. A very big subject.

No one or two or even three people could possibly hope to do the job that needs to be done. That's where you come in.

No matter how great or small your contribution to this effort, it will be very much appreciated.

If all you did were to add a picture or write an anecdote to biographies here and there, it is exactly that type of group contribution that will add up to a tremendous volume of information.

Some will find it to be great fun to learn some new skills in editing a site like this. After all, what could be better than learning something new and contributing to a vital historical work at the same time?

Your help is welcome and we will do our best to give you all the support and encouragement we can. To be honest, there's a selfish side to all this - we expect to learn from your contributions as well.

Why the "BETA" designation?

You've probably noticed the red "BETA" notice in the upper left icon. There's a blog post about this you can read.

The website has grown nicely over the past few years in both content and technical development and it's easy to see the content of the site but what most people don't understand is there is a tremendous amount of untapped technical capabilities we have yet to utilize.

If it were a car that ran on both battery and regular engine power, we could say scientolipedia is running batteries only and sitting on the exposed frame with just the seats installed.

So not only are there volumes of needed content but also a significant amount of site software development too. If you go to the blog link you will find links to a number of other pages that explain various aspects of the site's potential and needed upgrades.

Please feel free to use this forum to ask questions and bring up topics regarding any of this.
