Hi Ant,
+

+
I might be of some help.
+

+
When LRH wrote ''The Way to Happiness'' he was in hiding with Pat and Annie Broker, so I was not there.  But what I do remember is that when the book was received, the LRH PR had to get it published and do up a campaign around it and the Snr CS Int Office had to work out the rundown of processes.  This is what RTRC (LRH Tech and Research Compilations) would do.  They would take everything LRH had written or spoken about a subject and put the processes together and write it up in bulletin form under the name of LRH.
+

+
Based on the year ''TWTH'' came out, the rundown would have been compiled by  David and Merrill Mayo, Julie Gillespie-Mayo and perhaps Penny Eldredge.

+
Hope this helps.

ThatText in bold and italic, is notes to people working on this draft, and will be taken out before publication.

The following text from the book The Way to Happiness has presumably not been scanned in (pagination is different) and may contain small errors. It contains the main text (all pictures are missing) but lacks the following items in the printed book:
A. The first page "How to Use This Book" is missing.
B. The second page "Why I Gave You This Book" is missing (it merely says the words "Your survival is important to me" with a single word on each lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) except the last).
C. All footnotes (which are mainly definitions of words),
D. Publication details. The first (1981) edition does not contain a printer and is published by Regent house, Ltd, PO Box 29903, Los Angeles, CA 90029. The 1984/5 issue is published by New Era Publications in Denmark, and is printed by Special Trykkeriet Viborg.
E. The first edition is printed with blue ink, has a logo/monogram consisting of a path with a yellow sun in the horizon at the end of the path. This appears on the front cover and with each main precept. The front cover is as below, with the exception of it having at the bottom two lines, the first beginning "to""and the second beginning "from", both followed by a lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) allowing you to add who you are sending it to and who you are.
The second edition, slightly smaller has a number of pictures which are black and white with colouring in light yellow. It also has two lines at the bottom of the front cover as in the first edition, "two" and "from", but these are not so visible as they appear in white over a pale yellow picture of the road ("the way").

Here is the text of the second page of the of both editions, which has the heading How to Use This Book:
"You, of course, wish to help your contacts and friends.
"Choose someone whose actions, however remotely, may influence your own survival.
"Write the person's name on the top lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) of the front cover.
"Write or stamp your own name, as an individual, on the second lineThe military type of organization form whereby there is a definite ascending and descending chain of command. Orders pass from top management down the line of command and compliances and data pass on up without by-passing the chain of command. (Modern Management Defined (c) L. Ron Hubbard, 1976) of the cover.
present the person with the book.
"Ask the person to read it.
"You will find that he or she also is threatened with the possible misconduct of others.
"Give the person several additional copies of this book but do not write your name on them: let the other person write his or hers. Have the person present these copies to others that are involved in his or her life.
"By continuing to do this you will greatly enhance your own survival potential and theirs.
"This is a way towards a much safer and happier life for you and others."
