And one summer when I went to England on holiday, my father (in a London suburb) lent me his car to travel down to Porlock, Somerset (situated near Exmoor National Park ). She had retired to live with her sister. They were both keen gardeners and were brought up in Porlock in a house which was shaded from the sun much of sunny days by the Exmoor Hills.  They had therefore brought a plot of land not affected that way, had built a small house on it, and were busy gardening. This was before the big exodus from the church, and the stronger suppressiveness of the 80's. We could let our hair down, and she told me quite a bit.

I know nothing of Joan's early life.

Coming into Scientology

Joan had been reading all the books she could find on psychology, and non of them satisfied what she was looking for. At the end of 1956 she came across Ron's book Fundamentals of Thought, and felt this was it (actually that was the year the book was published). She took a Communication CourseGives people a reality on Scientology and teaches communication formula by dummy auditing. (HCOB 5 Apr 73), and then the full HPAAbbreviation for Hubbard Professional Auditor. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). (professional auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more course) in 1957. I remember she was Extension Course Instructor at one time (that was a correspondence course in major ScnAbbreviation for Scientology. DIA (Greek) through, NOUS (Greek) mind, deals with a system of mental image pictures in relation to psychic (spiritual) trauma. The mental image pictures are believed on the basis of personal revelation to be comprising mental activity created and formed by the spirit, and not by the body or brain. (BPL 24 Sept 73 V) 2. Dn addresses the body. Thus Dn is used to knock out and erase illnesses, unwanted sensations, misemotion, somatics, pain, etc. Dn came before Scn.
