When the Hubbard Research Foundation of Elizabeth, New Jersey went bankrupt, Don Purcell had stepped in and bought out the assets, which meant that he owned Dianetics.  Don had a goal of creating for the Foundation the same image that the successful [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menninger_Foundation '''Menninger Clinic'''] in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topeka,_Kansas '''Topeka'''], Kansas, had.  With Ron talking about past lives, Don felt that this would discredit the Dianetic movement.  He and Ron had many an argument about it as witnessed by Perry - ''"There was a clinic in Topeka, Menninger clinic and Purcell wanted the Foundation to have the same success as the clinic.  Don felt that if Hubbard started talking about past lives it would discredit them so much that they, the foundation, would not have any possibility of having any success.  Hubbard’s whole attitude was “I am a researcher and what I find is what I find, if it works this is what you use, it doesn’t have anything to do with whether it is real or not, just whether it works”.  Purcell had bought out the bankruptcy of the first foundation in federal court, he pretty much owned Dianetics and everything in it.  He offered Hubbard $100 a lecture.  Hubbard felt constrained as he was owned by somebody instead of being his own man."''

As an employee of the Foundation, Perry performed many other duties such as; ''Self Analysis'' (published August 1951) and ''Handbook for Preclears'' (published December 1951) were completed by Hubbard in manuscript form, and Perry brought the manuscripts, along with the Axioms and Postulates, to the printer for reproduction.

From December 27 to December 30, 1951, Ron delivered eleven lectures at the second annual conference of Hubbard Dianetic Auditors, in Wichita.  They were delivered in the Crystal Room of the Shirkmere Hotel.  On the Monday following the December Conference a group of Dianeticists met at Ron’s home for an informal discussion on auditing techniques, three recordings were taken; Perry attended both events.  Perry recalled what happened to the Allied Scientists of the World - ''"I was summoned to Hubbard’s house one night at 3:00 a.m. He handed me a plane ticket and described a problem he had in Denver, Colorado.  He’d rented an office in Denver and purchased office furniture for it.  He’d hired a young lady to travel to Denver and take control of the Allied Scientist of the World office.  This lady had used him for a free ticket to Denver, and then disappeared.  There was a secretary working in the office.  I was to fly there and take care of it since many memberships for the Allied Scientists of the World should be now coming in the mail containing membership fees.  That next morning when I opened the Denver office door I began getting hit with one-after-the-other of FBI, BBB, newspaper reporters and so on.  There was no end to it, as though it was all planned to wear me down, which it did.  This was the “McCarthy” era, immediately after WWII.  Senator Joseph McCarthy waged relentless, unsubstantiated accusations against any and everyone he felt might be associated with communists.  Since our Government through the military was still engaged in secret contracts with a major portion of industry, no engineer or scientist would be permitted to join an organization whose board of directors was not known and purposes clearly revealed.  Hubbard did not want to reveal that he was the sole member behind the Allied Scientists of the World, so, therefore, the order had gone out across America to learn the hidden facts about this new organization.  Our returns from thousands of names invited to become members was sparse.  As I remember, it was about three out of thousands invited — and those were probably from the FBI!  I talked to Ross Lamoreaux by phone briefly while at Denver and learned that Don Purcell had placed a listening device on Hubbard’s telephone.  When I next talked to Hubbard I told him what I’d learned and about the scarcity of membership applications.  The Allied Scientists of the World was closed and I went back to Wichita, but not to work at the Foundation."''  Perry was pretty upset with the whole situation and had his wife, which was the first time his wife had ever driven on a highway, drive from Wichita to Denver to pick him up.  Perry describes what he did next - ''"Now without financial support for my family, I was invited by Dianetic club members at Mobile, AL and also those in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minneapolis '''Minneapolis'''], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota '''Minnesota'''], to help them get their auditing and club in order. I accepted the Minneapolis invitation and, soon after my arrival, met Ronald B. Howes in the hospital, and began processing Ronald B. Howes."''

Early life

Perry was born February 6, 1925 in Saint Paul Minnesota to Anthony Louis Fabio and Beatrice Etta (née Perry). At the age of six his father was killed. Perry's mother later remarried George Herbert Chapdelaine, a horologist (watchmaker) and engraver. After adoption by his step-father, Perry's last name became Chapdelaine, the only child of George and Beatrice Chapdelaine. Perry graduated from Mason City Iowa High School, he then attended Iowa State Teachers College (now known as the University of Northern Iowa) where he graduated in 1947 with a B.A. in Mathematics, and minors in chemistry, physics, and psychology. Perry furthered his education by attending George Peabody College for Teachers (now a part of Vanderbilt University. While there, as a graduate student, Perry met and fell in love with Ruby, an assistant librarian working at the College. In 1949 Perry obtained his M.A. in Mathematics, with a minor in psychology.

Perry returned to Mason City where he taught mathematics at his Alma mater, the Iowa State Teachers College. In 1949 Perry and Ruby were married in Mason City, where Perry then taught at Mason City Junior high School. On February 23, 1950, Perry and Ruby welcomed their first child, Perry Anthony Chapdelaine Jr.

In the December, 1949, edition of Astounding Science Fiction editor John W. Campbell announced an upcoming article about Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard. Perry was an avid reader of the magazine and had followed with interest the build up to the first article about Dianetics1. DIA (Greek) through, NOUS (Greek) mind, deals with a system of mental image pictures in relation to psychic (spiritual) trauma. The mental image pictures are believed on the basis of personal revelation to be comprising mental activity created and formed by the spirit, and not by the body or brain. (BPL 24 Sept 73 V) 2. Perry formed a small group, in Mason City, to try to figure out what was reverie and how one knew when they were encountering an engram1. a mental image picture which is a recording of a time of physical pain and unconsciousness. It must by definition have impact or injury as part of its content. (HCOB 23 Apr 69) 2. a specialized kind of facsimile. This differs from other mental pictures because it contains, as part of its content, unconsciousness and physical pain. It disposed of body illness and the difficulties a thetan was having with his body. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more Perry made plans to take the HDA (Hubbard Dianetic Auditor) course that was being offered in Elizabeth New Jersey.

His first action was to move his family to his wife's parents home in Mobile Alabama, a drive of over 1,051 miles in his Frazer Manhattan automobile. While in Mobile, Perry met a businessman, by the name of Clint McDade, who paid Perry to auditThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) him on the Dianetic techniques. Perry drove to Elizabeth, a journey of over 1,178 miles, where he started the six week HDA course. In order to pay for everything Perry sold his life insurance policy, which his parents had paid into for years. His course took place at the original Hubbard Research FoundationAn evening, part-time organization. It's hours are 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M., Monday through Friday and 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976) which had been established by L. Ron Hubbard, Don Rogers (an electrical engineer), John W. Campbell, Jr., and others.

During this time Hubbard was primarily in Los Angeles California but would, once a week, fly in and give lectures to the approximately forty students on the course. Of that time Perry recalls - "One time he had worked out this business about ARC1. a word from the initial letters of Affinity, Reality, Communication which together equate to Understanding. It is pronounced by stating its letters, A-R- C. To Scientologists it has come to mean good feeling, love or friendliness, such as “He was in ARC with his friend.” One does not, however, fall out of ARC, he has an ARC break. (LRH Def. John Campbell would also lecture during this time period. On January 15, 1951 the State of New Jersey served the FoundationAn evening, part-time organization. It's hours are 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M., Monday through Friday and 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976) with a complaint of operating a school for treatment of disease without a license. Perry recalled that time period - "I was at Elizabeth, NJ when the service of process from the NJ attorney general’s office was served. My HDA was received, you’ll note, in January 1951 and since it was a six week course I had to be there during Xmas of 1950. They didn't exist without students. They had to shut down or folks would go to jail. Of those who started the foundation: Winter, Roger, Campbell and Hubbard, Roger was there toward the end. A PhD in chemistry who was very unstable broke down. Roger asked me to take care of him until they could haul him off to an asylum a long way away the next morning. I stayed with the guy on the third floor of an empty house. He would not sleep, but constantly dramatized his engrams with physical motions. We hauled him off. That’s the last time I saw Rogers." Despite those events Perry, in the last HDA class before the New Jersey Attorney General shut the foundation down, finished his course on January 19, 1951 and headed back to Alabama. However the place where Perry had had his engine oil changed had forgotten to replace the oil fill cap and his engine failed as a result of a loss of oil. Fortunately for Perry, Clint McDade wired him the money to get his car fixed.

Once back with his family in Mobile, Perry set up a Dianetic study center there and one in Fairhope, Alabama. During that time period paying PC1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63)'s were a rare find and Perry had one in Clint. Perry continued to auditThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) Clint but eventually came to a conclusion - "I worked with my preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' PC in Alabama for some time, one day coming to the realization that my HDA certificate did not give me the skills and knowledge necessary to bring him to a cleared state. In fact, I was doing no better with my paying preclear1. a person who, through Scientology processing, is finding out more about himself and life. (The Phoenix Lectures, p. 20) 2. a spiritual being who is now on the road to becoming Clear, hence preclear. (HCOB 5 Apr 69) 3. one who is discovering things about himself and who is becoming clearer. (HCO PL 21 Aug 63) ''Abbr.'' By this time Ron, with help from Don Purcell, had moved the headquarters of the Hubbard Research FoundationAn evening, part-time organization. It's hours are 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M., Monday through Friday and 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. Perry brought Clint and two members of the Mobile and Fairhope, Alabama Dianetic club with him to Wichita. On June 28, 1951, a Thursday evening, the conferees attended a banquet given by the FoundationAn evening, part-time organization. The first limited edition copies of Science of Survival were presented at the banquet to those who had ordered the manuscript edition. Perry had his copy autographed by Hubbard. (Note from Perry in 2014: "I gave my signed manuscript of Science of Survival, along with some other early books, to the Church in California. Last I saw of it was in a display casethe whole sum of past by-passed charge. (HCOB 19 Aug 63) opened to his signature. I didn’t ask any money for it."). On June 29, 1951, at the business section of the conference the Association of Hubbard Dianteic Auditors, International was formed. Out of the one hundred and twelve HDA's that were there, Perry was elected as its secretary. While there, Perry learned that a male and a female auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more at the FoundationAn evening, part-time organization. Perry drove back to Mobile and moved his wife and son to Wichita where he worked under Ross Lamoreaux, who had a PhD in psychology, in the processing section of the FoundationAn evening, part-time organization. It's hours are 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M., Monday through Friday and 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976). All through July to October Perry auditedThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) and also attended about thirty-six lectures given by Hubbard. During that time Ron assigned Perry a specific task - "Because of my degrees in mathematics Hubbard hired me to produce axioms and logics for Dianetics1. On October 8 to October 12, 1951, Ron delivered ten lectures at the October Midwest Conference Lectures. Passed out to the attendees was a little paper-bound book called Dianetics1. During this time period Hubbard was auditedThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) every day, mostly on himself and those sessions became his lectures. Perry described Hubbard's auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) as - "Ron’s “research” consisted mainly of two types; (1) stuff he could re-write from other folks’ writings and (2) stuff he derived from his own daily auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) sessions. Of course he did other type of research by observing auditors and their preclears, but in the early days it was mainly one and two above. When Ron lectured and said (paraphrase) that to understand an apple one should study an apple, he was referring to number 2 above. To understand the mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. Ron invited Perry to auditThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) him on October 25, 1951. Perry describes the session - "Ron pretty well ran himself in session. Ron went through the whole “History of Man” sequence during that period. The content in what I auditedThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) is the same as in the History of Man book." On October 26, 1951, Ron delivered three lectures to HDA students in Wichita, titled Evolution of Man According to the Facsimile. According to Perry - "Hubbard was experimenting with going outside of the body. Ron told Bob Eubanks to be three feet behind his head and he did it. Bob starting acting really weird after that and Hubbard thought it was funny and laughed and laughed about it."

Purcell had bought out the bankruptcy of the first foundation in federal court, he pretty much owned Dianetics1. Dn addresses the body. Thus Dn is used to knock out and erase illnesses, unwanted sensations, misemotion, somatics, pain, etc. Dn came before Scn. It disposed of body illness and the difficulties a thetan was having with his body. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more and everything in it. He offered Hubbard $100 a lecture. Hubbard felt constrained as he was owned by somebody instead of being his own man."

Around this time Hubbard was also working on a separate project which Perry was involved. Ron had Perry go the library and pick up a book of civil engineering people’s addresses. Perry had the girls in the office, three of them, type these addresses on a little silk screen address master. They went through that whole book tying out those names and addresses. Ron was starting the Allied Scientists of the World. Perry recalls this - "I also worked with a number of typists in preparing names and addresses for an organization that was to be known as the “Allied Scientists of the World,” a complex Hubbardian scheme designed to end war and to bring about the first Dianetic community. The purpose of setting up the Allied Scientists of the World was to set up a Dianetic community in the desert. He wanted to build H bomb proof shelters. In those shelters he wanted to put all the trade secrets of the industrialist. If any nation wanted to start a war they would be denied access to those secrets." The first letters were sent out from the Allied Scientists of the World on November 23, 1951, from their address at 941 17th street, Denver, Colorado. As an employee of the FoundationAn evening, part-time organization. It's hours are 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M., Monday through Friday and 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976), Perry performed many other duties such as; Self Analysis (published August 1951) and Handbook for Preclears (published December 1951) were completed by Hubbard in manuscript form, and Perry brought the manuscripts, along with the Axioms and Postulates, to the printer for reproduction.

From December 27 to December 30, 1951, Ron delivered eleven lectures at the second annual conference of Hubbard Dianetic Auditors, in Wichita. They were delivered in the Crystal Room of the Shirkmere Hotel. On the Monday following the December Conference a group of Dianeticists met at Ron’s home for an informal discussion on auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) techniques, three recordings were taken; Perry attended both events. Perry recalled what happened to the Allied Scientists of the World - "I was summoned to Hubbard’s house one night at 3:00 a.m. He handed me a plane ticket and described a problema problem is postulate-counter-postulate, terminal-counter-terminal, force-counter-force. It’s one thing versus another thing. You’ve got two forces or two ideas which are interlocked of comparable magnitude and the thing stops right there. All right, now with these two things one stuck against the other you get a sort of a timelessness, it floats in time. (SH Spec 82, 6111C21) 2 . a problem is a postulate-counter-postulate resulting in indecision. That is the first manifestation of problems, and the first consequence of a problem is indecision. (SH Spec 27, 6107C11) 3 . a multiple confusion. (SH Spec 26X, 6107C03) 4 . an intention counter-intention that worries the preclear. (HCOB 23 Feb 61) 5 . a problem is the conflict arising from two opposing intentions. A present time problem is one that exists in present time, in a real universe. (HCOB 3 Jul 59) 6 . something which is persisting, the as-is-ness of which cannot be attained easily. (PRO 16, 5408CM20) he had in Denver, Colorado. The Allied Scientists of the World was closed and I went back to Wichita, but not to work at the FoundationAn evening, part-time organization. It's hours are 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M., Monday through Friday and 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976)." Perry was pretty upset with the whole situation and had his wife, which was the first time his wife had ever driven on a highway, drive from Wichita to Denver to pick him up. Perry describes what he did next - "Now without financial support for my family, I was invited by Dianetic club members at Mobile, AL and also those in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to help them get their auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) and club in order. I accepted the Minneapolis invitation and, soon after my arrival, met Ronald B. Howes in the hospital, and began processing Ronald B. Howes."

career

Perry came to Nashville, TN to teach mathematics. He taught simultaneously at University of TN night school and Tennessee State University; respectively all White and all Black. He was the first and only “integrated” professor at both schools and, during the race fights to control the schools, the two college presidents obeyed the judge, who’d told them to cooperate, by simultaneously firing their only integrated faculty member. He also was honored with having a half-million-dollar National Science FoundationAn evening, part-time organization. It's hours are 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M., Monday through Friday and 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. (Modern Management Technology Defined (C) 1976) grant for early development of Computer Assisted Instruction in conjunction with the work of the famous Dr. Patrick Suppes at Stanford University.

What to Audit/A History of Man

"The book reportedly originated in Scientology auditingThe application of Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained auditor. (Dianetics & Scientology Technical Dictionary (C) 1975) sessions held in Wichita, Kansas in early 1952, involving Hubbard and his personal auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more, Perry Chapdelaine. According to Chapdelaine, Hubbard would "settle himself on a couch with a tape recorder handy and an 'auditor1. one who listens and computes; a Scn practitioner. 2. one who has been trained in the technology of Scn. An auditor applies standard technology to preclears. 3. a person who through church training becomes skilled in the successful application of Dn and Scn to his family, friends and the public to achieve the ability gained as stated on the Gradation Chart for his class of training...more' who would be expected to provide appropriate feedback. In no time a flow1. an impulse or direction of energy particles or thought or masses between terminals. (HCOB 3 Feb 69)...more of introspection - like the free association characteristic of a psychoanalytic session - would begin."[1]
"Taping by Hubbard was primarily for his work such as axioms and postulates2. a postulate is, of course, that thing which is a directed desire or order, or inhibition, or enforcement, on the part of the individual in the form of an idea. (2ACC 23A, 5312CM14) 3. that self-determined thought which starts, stops or changes past, present or future efforts. (APIA, p. 33) 4. is actually a prediction. (5112CM30B)-v...MORE, not for sessions. The History of Man came out of my one-time session with Hubbard."[2]

He taught mathematics at college level for a number of years, and he's proudly worked for the Air Force as a civilian. Later he established a number of private businesses, but is now retired, except for his work for a charity organization. His early and long-running love of science fiction and fantasy started him on the path of writing science fiction full time until he developed so-called "incurable" rheumatoid arthritis. While seeking and at last finding the cure to this horrible disease, he began work for the non-private, tax-exempt charity, the Arthritis Trust of America. It is for the Arthritis Trust that he's written a number of medical books and articles dedicated to helping folks, all under his pseudonym of "Anthony di Fabio." Found on Kindle are the following:

Just Science Fiction?

ASF May 1950.jpg

Perry, a local acquaintance of mine, recently gave me a copy of a 100+-page piece he'd written in 2012, entitled "Introduction to the First Publicly Known Clear3. a Clear is not an all-knowing being. A Clear is somebody who has lost the mass, energy, space and time connected with the thing called mind . ( SH Spec 80, 6609C08) ...more." The following excerpt is taken from the first page,[3] and it explains the importance of LRHL. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics1. Dn addresses the body. Thus Dn is used to knock out and erase illnesses, unwanted sensations, misemotion, somatics, pain, etc. Dn came before Scn. It disposed of body illness and the difficulties a thetan was having with his body. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more, The Modern Science of Mental Health having been first publicized in a science fiction magazine, of all places.

(HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more, The Modern Science of Mental Health made quite a stir throughout the world when it was published in 1950. "Original publicity of Hubbard's book was reached through the pages of a science fiction magazine through the acceptance by John W. Campbell, Jr., the editor of Astounding Science Fiction. Since those days, science fiction and fantasy have become mature fields of literature, not to be disparaged as it was so easy for some to do in those days. However, the important aspect of being published in Astounding Science Fiction was that its readership was far from that of gullible teenagers. Scientists, teachers, engineers, lawyers of every rank subscribed, and often corresponded regularly with John W. Campbell, Jr. Campbell greatly influenced scientists, engineers and writers. His magazine's subscribers included Albert Einstein (general and special Theories of relativity ; E=MC2), Edward Teller (father of the hydrogen bomb), and Werner von Braun (developer of Germany's and America's first successful rockets). According to Herman Oberth (early rocket scientist), the Rand Think Tank (Rand Corporation), employed by military and other government experts, was also the fruit of Campbell's thoughts.

"Scientists and engineers thought so highly of him that there is a crater on Mars named after him, the Campbell crater!

L Ron Hubbard(l) and John W Campbell

"The magazine Campbell edited became the cerebral playground for engineers, physicists and philosophers and was consistently widely distributed throughout colleges and universities.

"The multi-billion-dollar science fiction and fantasy movie and TV industry owes major debts to Campbell, who brought mood and magic into these fields.

"As editor of a magazine dedicated to science fiction and science fact articles, Analog Science Fiction and Fact (initially Astounding Science Fiction), he molded and shaped the modern world of science fiction by training several generations of great writers -- Professor Isaac Asimov, PhD (biochemistry); L. Sprague DeCamp, B.S., M.S. (aeronautical engineering), whose oxygen-system designs were incorporated into astronauts' moon suits; Sir Arthur C. Clarke (former President of Sri Lanka University), inventor of the asynchronous equidistant satellites; and so on. Campbell also published and recognized the genius of others: L. Ron Hubbard, A.E. van Vogt, Lester del Rey, Robert Heinlein, Hamilton, Pratt, and on ... all the men who created the Golden Age of Science Fiction.

"Gene Roddenberry, a fan of Campbell's and the developer of Star Trek and Star Trek Generations, was profoundly influenced by Campbell. Star Wars and its series, and dozens of other popular, economically lucrative movies follow formats and principles first espoused and placed into print by John W. Campbell, Jr.

"One of the very few science fiction writers not trained by Campbell was Ron Hubbard, a wizard of a genius in his own right -- eagle scout, explorer, aviator, world traveler, and writer of western tales, true adventures ... oh, yes! According to Campbell, Hubbard could also carry a tune in any part of four harmonies!

"Campbell collected geniuses, frequently holding talk fests at his New Jersey home. Among those invited to share in this literal buffet of creative ideas was L. Ron Hubbard, and so John W. Campbell, Jr. and L. Ron Hubbard became fast friends.

"During the forties and later, L. Ron Hubbard wrote some of the definitive fantasy and science fiction stories, many published in either Astounding Science Fiction or Unknown magazine, the latter [being] a short-lived Campbellian publication dedicated to the telling of fairy tales in a modern vein. L. Ron Hubbard was superb in Astounding, but in Unknown, he excelled.

"Single-handedly, Campbell created modern science fiction as a vehicle for a new way of thinking! He is considered by many to have had the most challenging mind3. a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities of the thetan versus the physical universe or other thetans. The mind is a communication and control system between the thetan and his environment. (FOT, p. 56)...MORE and the most constructive influence on the United States from the 1930s up to the end of the 1960s.

"Looking back on the true influence of Astounding Science Fiction magazine, only now can we begin to realize the huge influence Campbell had on promulgating Hubbard's Dianetics1. Dn addresses the body. Thus Dn is used to knock out and erase illnesses, unwanted sensations, misemotion, somatics, pain, etc. Dn came before Scn. It disposed of body illness and the difficulties a thetan was having with his body. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more! Furthermore, this was not simply a public relationsThe art of making good works well known. (HCO PL 21 Nov 72 I) ''Abbr.'' PR stunt, because John W. Campbell and his wife, Margaret, practiced the principles of Dianetics1. Dn addresses the body. Thus Dn is used to knock out and erase illnesses, unwanted sensations, misemotion, somatics, pain, etc. Dn came before Scn. It disposed of body illness and the difficulties a thetan was having with his body. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more until each passed on.

"The above brief description of John W. Campbell, Jr. should set to rest the idea that "Dianetics1. It disposed of body illness and the difficulties a thetan was having with his body. (HCOB 22 Apr 69)...more was promulgated in just a science fiction pulp magazine!" Yes ... but a magazine with tremendous reach and influence! As fact, the book Dianetics1.
