John passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly on December 24, 2019 at the age of 49 in Kansas City, MO. John was born November 23, 1970 in Santa Rosa, CA. He attended Wooster High School in Reno, NV and attended American River College in Sacramento, CA. John was a lifelong student of religion and philosophy and was very passionate about those subjects. He was a caring person who helped many people throughout his life as a professional counselor. He loved watching professional sports, motorcycle riding, fly fishing, photography and music. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Powers, and his father, James H. Clay. He is survived by his sisters, Juliana Carr (Kevin) and Nancy Owen (Mike), and five nieces and nephews. John was loved and will be greatly missed.

On October 22, 2015 Scientolipedia.org received a [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Millennium_Copyright_Act DMCA] notice.

The notice gives us 48 hours to respond or else the site's ISP will remove the content. (this likely means shutting down the site as the only way they can ensure the content is not replaced)

The notice came on a Thursday night, a clever strategy for the church as it leaves less than one workday, a Friday at that, in which to secure legal help to deal with the matter.

We're posting the notice from our ISP and the church's list of alleged infringing materials below.

We will deal with this outrageous and futile attempt to keep the materials and knowledge of Scientology from those who would want access to them. The church's suppressive efforts will fail but any help you can give is much appreciated.

We need help in the following areas:
*Legal - expertise in dealing with DMCA and/or copyright issues.
*Technical - server admin skills and/or web software experience.

Torrents are a great solution for helping people get all of the lectures, because they are robust, inexpensive and can be used by anyone.

The fastest way to start to use this technology is to use a torrent [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Client_%28computing%29 client]. We recommend using the torrent client "uTorrent" because it is free and very simple to use.

To use this software, click on one of the Torrent Links in the Torrent list below while. uTorrent will pop up a window allowing you to approve the start of the download. Click "Ok" to approve the Torrent Download.

The uTorrent software will now begin looking for that file. It's important to know that with torrent files, you must be patient. People with files go offline and come back later, so it is important to wait for a while before deciding something is wrong if your download does not begin immediately. It might take a few minutes or it might take a day to begin downloading your torrent if there are not a lot of other available connections.

This also shows how important it is for people to keep their uTorrent connection up so that others can download the files quickly. If your home connection is too slow to keep a lot of torrents available all the time, consider a Seedbox. More on that below.

Nearly any computer purchased within the last ten years that is connected to the internet is capable of using torrent software. These lectures total just a little bit more than 100 GB of space. So, the only hardware question beyond computer power is hard drive space. If you have a laptop, you may have a hard drive that is too small for all of this data -- and even if you have a large hard drive, you may still not want the lectures to fill it up.

Most people use an external hard drive to allow for large downloads like this. You can buy a very nice 1 TB (1000 GB) hard drive from Amazon for less that US$70. As seems to be the case with too many new young Sea Org recruits, I was picked up at the airport not by my recruiter but by some harried staffer shortly after 1 pm on a Thursday and raced to the Hollywood Inn where no arrangement had been made for my berthing.

I was too young and naive to consider that a problem. Besides, larger than life, and I don't mean that because of his physical size, in the corner of the lobby, was Dick Glass, the Eloquent Elephant and a piano, belting out tunes between jokes and generally keeping me enthralled. I had never seen or heard of him before, but, wow, what an intro.

He invited me to join him on the piano bench and together we plunked out a few tunes and generally had a ball. The three hours I had to wait before I actually had a place to stay passed in a few minutes.

Dick was a goodwill ambassador for Scientology. He recorded a couple of albums through Capitol that sort of did ok, his voice was tuneful, but no more than any other singer of the day. He has a few tunes on YouTube if you care to listen. All in all, you would say he was unremarkable, but he wasn't. He lit up a room and it stayed bright after he left. You knew you had been in the presence of greatness.

For over 20 years, Dick used his self-deprecating humor and larger than life personality to promote Scientology.

During some of that time, when I was still active, Dick and I were good friends. He never forgot my name. We played beautiful music together and shared many a confidence. He was a sweet, kind man and never betrayed my confidences.

Then he started suffering with the side effects of untreated diabetes, brought on by his ballooning weight. He was offloaded from Sea Org when it became apparent he would need to have a foot amputated. He remained in good standing, and did not say much but was upset at the fact that most of his possessions had been destroyed in SO storage. He was, as is usually the case, abandoned by the group he faithfully served.

He died of a heart attack on July 30, 1992 in Glendale, CA

While in training, Jonathan was student of the week for six weeks in a row and holds the record for student points weekly in FLAG's HCI Academy to this day. Today, with great enthusiasm, I attest to the state of Clear. I've always known that I see the world differently than most people. Through childhood, "fitting in" was difficult for me and I picked up some bad habits to more easily accomplish this.

When I was a teenager, I began "seeking". I was looking for something to help me make sense of it all. I spent several years borrowing from a variety of religions and philosophies to piece together a mosaic of my own belief system.

When Jonathan introduced me to Scientology and the work of L.R.H, I was surprised to discover that it was similar to what I had pieced together. Although, the terminology was different, the principles were the same. At the time I remember thinking that it just reinforced to me how "true" my philosophy was and how interesting that he and I had come to the same conclusions.

As I continued getting auditing--most recently N.E.D.--and studying, I became increasingly more certain that I was Clear. I began having rapid-fire cognitions that I originated to Jonathan. Not only was I Clear, but a past life Clear, at that. THAT made a LOT of sense. I hadn't "recreated" Scientology on my own, I had "remembered" it. The funny thing to me is that many times when I heard other past-lifers talk about their feelings of not quite "fitting in" and some of their cognitions, I'd thought, "yeah, right. I have that too." It never occurred to me that I had that too because I was that too.

For me, attesting to Clear has been an experience that has made my whole life more "clear"...my childhood, my interactions with others, my auditing, everything. I feel very validated now. I hope others experience this feeling of serene contemplation paired with anticipation that I am.

I am grateful to L.R.H. for exploring, developing, and codifying the tech to make a more logical path for all of us. I acknowledge the efforts of my C.S.'s: Pat Krenik and Chris Black. I value them, as well as each Scientologist with whom I've spoken and shared stories; they all add to my experience. I want to acknowledge and thank Jonathan for introducing me to Scientology--this life--, for his willingness to audit me, and most of all his patience and love.

I am greatly looking forward to continuing on this fascinating journey.

(Alean was miserable, coughing nearly all day every day, sore throat, headaches, sinus attacks and unable to eat most meals due to the discomfort after her last auditing at the FSO, for over a two years. The unhandled restimulation was so bad she thought she was within a couple of months of dropping the body, she was so unhappy. During her OT V she stated she might have had ten or twelve called floating needles in all of her OT V, due to the altered definition the COS uses. She was shocked to know the real definition had been changed having done her earlier OT levels and Clearing Course in 1971.)

I feel good about my N.O.T.S. Repair. I handled things that were out, with success. I feel so much better! Bodily and spiritually with new awareness thanks to Jonathan, a great Auditor who pulled me through.

I have been Clear for quite some time. No doubt this has assisted me on all dynamics, but OTII is the turbo boost that helps one pull quickly away from the effects and impact of being "carried along with" areas of life that keep popping up and need to be regularly handled.

I've found that I was stuck in a rut. What Clear allowed me to do was be a really awesome driver over this very rocky, bumpy, and rough road. With OTII I have been able to "jump the track", get out of that rut, and place myself on a newly paved highway. I've always had plenty of horsepower, but what good is that when the road is too rough to floor it once in a while? The ability to do this is truly awesome. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Funny to find myself, writing my success story of (Going) Clear, when I was Clear all along.
I realized how the Bridge is the rehabilitation of the Spirit, of the Thetan, which has nothing to do with the MEST universe.
I guess Iam blown away, when coming here, I had never in my mind that the state of Clear was already part of me and it has been for a while.

This was a Fantastic welcome to the OT Levels. I find it amazing how my viewpoint has changed on the Solo Courses and My OT Preps. These actions really set me up to thoroughly enjoy OT I.

Especially the I depth study of the fundamental books. (0-8, 8-8008, Dianetics, Self Analysis etc.). With these and OT I, I can now see, in action both, the Theta and Physical universes as they play out before me. This was lots of fun and enlightening!

She was a loyal Sea Org member and never lost her integrity even though she was sorely troubled when she was offloaded from the Sea Org after 30 years of service. She left the SO in a wheelchair and wearing a pacemaker for her heart condition, but she learned to survive and made new friends during the following years. She never lost her sense of humor and even recovered her beingness as a first dynamic individual after years of being a staff member when all personal goals were discouraged. She was proud of the people she helped as a Sea Org member, of her loyalty to LRH, and was proud that she was able to design and implement the first on-policy �State of the Art� Central Files at Flag.

Eileen Clark is under hospice care in a hospital in Gardnerville,NV. She is preparing to go at any time. Lisa Holt Hamilton and some of Eileen's other friends are with her full time. I have been giving her assists for some time and we talk several times a day.

Lisa has posted this information on her Facebook site so that Eileen's friends can send her farewell messages. She knew and loved many people, but there were some she was not able to contact. Among the people Eileen would like to know about her circumstances are Steve Kemper, Inci Paulson, Steve Olson, Erica Udvardi, Darleen Castle, Joe and Annette Hochman and Debbie Cook Baumgartner. If any of you have comm lines to these people, then please pass this on.

Lisa and I are forwarding all messages to Eileen and she feels blessed to have known all of you. She is not able to handle many phone calls, but if you send me a private email, I will arrange it so you can reach her when she is awake.

She has been given the program that assists one to handle the transition from this existence to the next. I have posted it on workable technology.com for anyone who needs to help someone else in this situation. It is very workable, common sense advice and should be part of any preparations made at the end of life.

Eileen spent more than 30 years in the Sea Org and is proudest of the fact that she was able to help people who experienced injustices from the church.

"Eileen passed away this morning in a care center in Gardnerville, Nevada. A nurse stayed with her all night and reported that Eileen spent a peaceful night and took leave of her body about 8:30 am this morning.

Eileen had decided that she wanted to move on some time ago and has been under hospice care for many weeks. She was really grateful for the calls and messages she received even though she was not able to respond as she grew weaker.

Special thanks to Debbie and Peter Frigo who took Eileen into their home and cared for her when she had a debilitating heart attack in 2011. She lived with them for many months until she felt she was ready to move out on her own again. They remained close friends and when Eileen went into the hospital for the last time, they were frequent visitors and kept her company during the final days along with Lisa Hamilton.

I had the honor of auditing Eileen and she sent me some photos of her Sea Org days and asked me to write this to thank all of you for your love and friendship."

== Scientology Years ==
Dick found out about Scientology in 1968 and started attending evening classes at the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles, 2005 West 9th Street. In 1969 Dick moved his family to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego '''San Diego'''] where he went to work at the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_San_Diego '''University of San Diego''']. He gave intro lectures at the Scientology College Avenue Org. On April 17, 1970, Dick, as an associate professor of English at the University of San Diego and a devout Roman Catholic, wrote a letter of support for Scientology (see copy of letter to the right). This letter was eventually reprinted in Scientology's 1974 publication of the book - "Scientology: A World Religion Emerges in the Space Age". The reprint of his letter can be found on page twenty-one of the appendices section of the book.

After 3 years Dick quit his job at the University and joined the Sea Org at AO. He was all ready to move back to LA with his wife and children when the position was cancelled. Dick had everything ready for the move including the cutting off of his phone. His phone was cancelled during his conversation about his move to LA. In the fall of 1974 Beth MacRae took a picture of the RPF, during breakfast, on the bow of the [[Excalibur]]. Dick is pictured with his back to the camera. In January 1975, Dick wrote a commendation (see below) to Howard Dickman, which was used in Howard's RPF graduation CSW. Dick graduated from the RPF and returned to ASHO.

On July 4, 2010, Dick was interviewed by David Thomas about his time on the [[Excalibur]]'s RPF. At ASHO Dick held various posts; SHSBC Supervisor, SHSBC word clearer, D of T, Staff Section Officer, and folder administrator.

=== LRH Public Relations ===
Towards the end of his time with the Church Dick transferred over to LRH Public Relations as the chief LRH writer. He wrote for LRH internal and external PR and a weekly LRH briefing. During his time there he penned about 50 LRH press releases. Finally he was forced to leave SO Staff at LRH Public Relations. He had not been doing well, getting into long word chains. He caved in and was sent to his third RPF, which he was in for over a year. In 2000, after a twenty-seven year career with the Church, Dick was offloaded.

=== Life after the Church of Scientology ===
Dick lived in the apartments right across from Celebrity Centre International. He spent six years running a TV show that promoted Scientology. Dick was an officer of four different Scientology Gung-Ho Groups; a writers club, a poetry club. He was part of a Celebrity Centre poetry club and was invited to give a poetry seminar. Ten minutes before his scheduled time he was informed by the Church that he was not allowed to be on CC's premises. After twenty-seven years of service with the Sea Org he wasn't even allowed to get a cup of coffee at the Scientology Church right across the road from where he lived. When Dick found out that David and Aida Thomas were part of the Free Zone he came over but had never officially left the Church of Scientology. In 2010 when he was interviewed he was in the process of writing his eighth volume in a series of hilarious sci-fantasy novels, each about sixty thousand words long. Coanda, Richard died on Jan. 6, 2014, age 82. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lori, 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. He attended Marquette University and earned his PhD in Literature at the University of Wisconsin. Former English professor (Ph.D.) and experienced writer and editor. and 50 press releases as personal public relations officer for L. Ron Hubbard, author or 300 poems and a 10-volume series of satirical science fantasy novels entitled "The Ladder of Love." He was a teacher, writer and poet. Richard's life will be celebrated at Our Mother of Good Counsel, at 2060 N. Vermont, Los Angeles, CA, at 4PM on Jan. 24.

Despite my relatively short time in Scientology, I had the honor of meeting some very wonderful people. I count Dick Coanda as one of those. He and I grew up in the same area of the Milwaukee suburbs, albeit twenty two years apart in age. Dick was the supervisor on my HQS course in San Diego in 1972. He and I were on the Excalibur's RPF together in 1974 and 1975. Dick had a PhD in Literature yet devoted his working life to Scientology and the Sea Org. I hold him in the highest esteem and I dedicate this biography in his memory.
